REVIEWS

Hardcore Gamer
The planet is filled with trippy touches and striking imagery. There’s an adorable robotic companion who pops up from time to time to offer cryptic advice, and tons of interesting environmental details. (...) People who want to explore a striking new land in a relaxing fashion will be in heaven here. Adding to this are some interesting puzzles. An early one that involved rearranging pieces of a coil to reactivate the ships engine was simple and clever. Traversal puzzles that goof around with gravity are a delight to solve as they force a level of three dimensional thinking that is satisfying to solve.

VR Focus
The world that Carbon Studio has created is a fantastic mix of sci-fi architecture and bizarre dreamlike scenarios. The books inspiration can be seen everywhere, from the mechanical cat that occasionally appears to the out and out absurdly trippy experiences, sharks flying through the sky, menacing black and white forests, tunnels that twist and turn as your viewpoint changes, it’s a visual assault on the senses. Add to that the eerie audio score, and you have quite an engaging mixture.

God is a Geek
With a five hour playthrough it’s one of the longer story-based VR titles, and with monitor support included, you can always experience the wacky world of Alice VR minus the VR. 7aa9394dea

HTC Vive Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this game and have played it twice now, The environments are great to explore and their are a lot of coo-ki level designs through the whole game, The object is to gather Graphine to power your space ship so you can leave orbit, The inhabitants have left their city and you are alone except for a voice in your ear, a mechanical Cheshire cat and a few hinted characters from the original Alice. Mainly your progress is blocked by a variety of physical puzzles that will even have you walking up walls and across the ceiling in giant city scapes, There are audio logs to find from the old inhabitants of the city giving some story to the game, and playing cards to find as well.
The downside to all this for me is that you will never meet any other characters in the flesh and their are no cut scenes to wonder at, There are parts in the game where you reach different transport but you don't get to see a cut scene or any real time travel, just another loading screen. I wont say about the ending but as with a lot of the game it's a let down and I was hoping for a lot more, It totally screams for a script writer to flesh out the story and give it some jazz, If it was not for the wondrous atmosphere it would be a negative, but as it is I think it's worth $15 for a rather cool experience and a trip to another planet.. The first hour of the game is pretty boring. The puzzles are just too easy all throughout the game but gets a bit more interesting towards the end. Graphics appears blurred at a distance even at max setting and I consider enabling teleport mode for anyone who gets vr sickness cause even if I am quite tolerant, at several point in the game, I felt uneasy.

The DLC adds perhaps an hour more to the game and is not that hard. I got the game along with others on indiegala.com, so I don't regret my purchase.. but I would never pay full price for the game. Oh.. and don't try to use your oculus remotes in the game. Crashes the moment you press a button.. Sci-Fi Alice in Wonderland + VR.

This is an immersive story experience. There are some puzzles you occasionally have to solve inbetween unlocking the story, but I'd hesitate to call that 'gameplay'. I kind of feel like the 25 dollar price tag might be a bit much for this. It's like Solus Project but with less actual gaming elements.

Still, other than the blurry visuals, everything else is well polished and thoughtfully crafted towards a pleasent VR experience. Normally I don't like story simulations, but VR kind of changes that. When certain mechanics are well done (locamotion, asset / ui polish, voice acting, setting, story) it's enough to make me forget all that and just enjoy the wonderful vr experience.

I'm only an hour in at this point, and I don't expect to have my mind blown by the time I finish, but certain moments did stand out in that first hour. Driving around the planet in a the vehicle for starters. The driving was super smooth, caused no motion sickness, and really made me feel like I was exploring an alien planet.

There was also kind of trippy dream sequence that was short but enjoyable. I'm guessing i'll see a lot more of these as I delve into the story.

So there it is, the game puts the right amount of attention on the core mechanics and fundamentals that I can recommend picking it up despite the somewhat high pricetag. It all comes together for a really immersive experience and that's really what I'm here for.. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!
You may be asking yourself why and here is your reasoning.
The game must have no scaling or something because once you shrink yourself for the first time in the very beginning there is a vent which you have to go through. I tried to go to it as that is here you have to go to progress but there was a strange invisible wall blocking it which is strange. So I thought to myself maybe I dont go there after a while I found out the game wants you to go there but you go through the wall outside the map just to go around it. So the game is there but why am I now crawling through a vent outside the map because the game thinks the walls are where they are not. I even got this game on sale and its not worth it. I bought this as a PC adventure game so cannot comment on the VR merits. As an adventure game , don't waste your money or time on this. To get anything done you have to solve a large number of mind-numbingly simple puzzles. The same puzzles repeat throughout the game. A typical puzzle is: can't reach high object; AI says you'll need to grow larger, push grow larger button.; touch object; push grow smaller button to continue on your way. After a short while this becomes extremely boring but I gave it a fair play and got 20% through the game before I gave up on it.. Experience not on VR. (for now)
The game is slowely paced at first, perhaps maybe little bit to slow as interactions are scarece. It picks up later on a bit. I got to it after playing Firewatch and willing to try another story based title. Story driven, with nice enviroments. What annoys me the most is that game actually introduces interesting game mechanics and then refuses to use it for more interesting gameplay. Shame. I suspect that the pacing and the movement speeds are made to accomodate the VR experience.

This game is in a nutshell:
Half-Life (sadlly the opening sequence)
Firewatch (complexity of the game mechanics)
Portal (the setting and environments)
Any FPS (the puzzles)

Positives:
*Looks great
*Interesting game mechanics (increase/decrease your size, gravity defying platforms)
*Alice in Wonderland inspired
*Interesting narration

Negatives:
-It can be slow, without giving you many interrations
-Simplistic puzzles - aimed at younger audience I guess
-Not everyone is fan of Alice (dream alike sequences)
-Under-utilised puzzles and shrinking mechanics.

Conclusion:
I'd like to see the game through the VR some of the changes in the environments would look impressive (collapsing structures, changes in perspective). I'm not sure if it would give me any motion issues or not, but it it one of the better looking games so far and immersion must be great. It's good to see a finished product rather than something that looks like a simple 5 min tech demo. Alice VR introduces few nice concepts but fails to play with it through out the experience. Levels are big in size but not terribly interactive. A lot of work was put into how the level should look, but then you will end up with 3 buttons to press and a simple puzzle to solve to get to the next stage.

Explore beautiful, unusual places and listen to the amazing, electronic music. Just buy your favourite VR game right now!. THE PATCH IS UP! (issues resolved & things tweaked):
Our first patch is here!
First of all, thank you for supporting us and staying with us through this rocky start. Although things weren’t all smooth from the get go, this first update should put us on the right track. We truly appreciate your feedback, so please keep it up!

Now, let’s see what’s changed...

The BIG stuff:. THE THIRD PATCH AND A GLIMPSE OF THINGS TO COME:
And here we are, 12 busy days after the launch and spirits are high. We’ve hit some snags but we’re still working on the game, tweaking its performance and implementing changes requested by you. We are grateful for all of your feedback, both the good and the bad - we learn from it and it helps us make Alice VR a better game for everyone.

At the moment we’re working on adding full teleport movement support for the game and we’ll be improving the performance of Alice on Radeon graphics cards (of course this is not the end of the planned tweaks). This patch should drop after the upcoming weekend but for now we have some glitch fixes for you. Those were included in the big GOG update that brought its version in line with what’s available on Steam. However for GOG we’ve added some new fixes on top of the old fixes, and now we have to bring the Steam version in line with the GOG version. Oh, how the tables have turned.

What’s new:. Full English Voice Acting is READY!:
Whoa, we've just finished implementing all of the voices for the game!

As you probably know, Alice VR is a story-driven experience, so choosing the right voice actor for every character wasn't easy. Especially because there are no typical characters in Alice VR. The game's world is inspired by "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" so everyone there is... a little peculiar.

And so we are very proud to announce that over 20 characters were recorded by Sound Cadence Studios, and the AI, which will lead you from the game, is played by Julie Shields and was recorded by the wonderful guys at Eon Sounds.

Also, if you're not a native English speaker, please remember that Russian, German, French, Spanish and Polish subtitles (and Polish voices!) will also be available in game!

If you want to hear the new voices (and some of the music...) be patient. Soon...
