Are You A Light Or Heavy Sleeper? There May Be More To It Than That

Do you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow and it feels like it will take a twenty-one-gun salute to wake you up again, then you could consider yourself a heavy sleeper. However, on the other hand, if you toss and turn all night and the slightest creek on the floorboards will interrupt your rest, you could be called a light sleeper. Many people think they are either one or the other, it is as simple as that.
It has recently come to light that, according to recent findings, there are far more different types of sleep than we thought. It turns out, along with being a light or heavy sleeper, there are seven further classifications of sleep, which may apply to you.

For instance, you might be a Maverick sleeper, where you could have issues with your body clock and have trouble achieving a consistent sleep pattern. You may not be able to develop a sleep routine, which can keep you awake as you struggle to reach REM sleep.
If you are an early bird sleeper, as the name suggests, your body clock may be in an earlier time zone, where you may find it hard to rest for the full recommended eight hours. It is advised early bird sleepers should be exposed to more natural light, to help their sleeping pattern.
At the other end of the spectrum, if you are a night owl sleeper, you usually turn in at a later hour, preventing you from waking up early as well.
Are you constantly fidgeting in your bed or shifting when trying to sleep, you may be what is known as a wriggler, and then there is the thinker. A person who may be have a lot on their mind and pre-occupied, finding themselves unable to clear their head. Leading to a disrupted sleep while, at the same time, finding it hard to get up in the morning. If you are also dealing with stress, it can have an impact on your sleeping habits.
There is also a common phenomenon where you may have not got enough sleep during the week and try to make up for it by oversleeping at the weekend. If you fall into this category, you may be what is called a catcher upper.
Are you looking for the perfect night’s sleep, where you can nod off without any trouble, have a good rest and wake up refreshed and alert in the morning? Then you should try and be a sleep master, the type where your sleeping pattern is in line with your body clock.
