It's the Metal Gear Solid V of the Deus Ex franchise.

Great but deeply flawed.. 8/10

Very good game. If you liked Human Revolution then you will like Mankind Divided.

Sure there are some bugs and annoying bits, but overall a good game with very good technical upgrades, and nice graphics. The game also sets up well for a new release.. In a word, I'd call this game disappointing.

Did it look good? Yep.

Did it play well? Yes, if you liked DX:HR.

Was the story compelling? Nope; Leaving aside 'racism but against augmented people' and 'fascist cops' themes, which smarter people than me have probably written about, nothing of note happened in the setting by the time the game was over. Players of previous games see lots of names they know dangled, and Jensen himself completes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of mission objectives, but by the time the credits are over, the status quo hasn't changed a bit. The overall feel was that of a very protracted prequel DLC to a game in which Jensen, Janus, and the Conspiracy actually make their moves.

Was the pacing good? No; I didn't realize I was on the last mission til I went to look up a choice the game presented me with, and the climax as such was abysmally bland. Again, by the end the effect was as if I'd played a very long medium-stakes DLC.

Likable characters? A few interesting ones; Most of the dialogue is Jensen being a 'by the book' jackass to regular people, or his superiors and teammates being a jackass to him.

Pet peeve? The vendors♥♥♥♥♥♥talk you as a window shopper no matter if you buy, sell, or both.. have a good PC, can play most games on max graphic's to include Ark. Crashes all the time.... A pretty solid immersive sim ruined by extensive technical issues.

I played this on release and I somehow managed to dodge the myriad technical issues that many people encountered. Coming back to it now, I'm getting them in spades. The game crashes every time I get near a story-critical mission, so RIP Mankind Divided.. After owning this game for two years now I finally got to make a playthrough, since my computer wasn't ready for it at the time. Too bad my new one seems to not handle this so good either.

Aside from the technological issues I had. I really enjoyed being able to play a Deus Ex game again. It doesn't have so much new stuff in it, but the old ones were solid enough for me.

The game offers you the things you expect, quick action (if you are going for a lethal playthrough), stealth sections (for the non-lethal path), fully voiced characters (and this time everyone did a really good job! I didn't find any bad acting in this case (english playthrough)), and a decision system which comes a little bit too short in my opinion.

The most positive thing for me was the dense atmosphere. The world of Deus Ex was always a fascinating one for me, and Adam Jensen is a big part of it. It seems impossible to scare him or to really find him on a topic he isn't able to adapt to. Corporate politics, drug dealer, red light districts or military operations , he is just able to prove himself whatever comes.

A little downside for me was the lack of consequences following the decisions you make and the rather small open world you get, even still you get it large enough to fill several hours of exploring.

All in all very happy with this game and my playthrough (pacifist) in 15 hours playtime on "normal" difficulty.

. Overall I enjoyed the game. Enjoyed the story, how it looks, etc. The only couple things I didn't were the final boss fight being unsatisfying (especially if you find a certain something), and that it feels.. Unfinished? It felt more like a stepping stone to going into the next game, than a standalone game of its own.. A great experience to have if you're a Cyberpunk fan, and the best warming up for Cyberpunk 2077 😎. Despite the abrupt and frankly disappointing ending, I think this game is worth playing through to the end. It builds on Human Revolution's gameplay, and is perhaps the best gameplay ever exhibited in a Deus Ex game. The story is not as great as DX1 or HR's, and the ending is obviously sequel bait, but it still kept me interested until the end. I really hope they make a sequel to this game; the hate it got was overblown, in my opinion.

I also had many technical issues with this game. The game was stuck loading a lot, and on certain cutscenes, I could not progress. I had to use a different computer in order to get past those. For those reasons, I probably won't play through this game again.

Nevertheless, if you're a fan of Deus Ex, and you've played through Deus Ex Human Revolution, then pick this game up.
