Disney Plus Surpasses 50 Million Subscribers

Disney Plus streaming service has witnessed a massive surge in its subscribers, which has surpassed 50 million since its launch in the year 2019. The wave took place due to the rollouts of the streaming service in some of the international territories, including India, the UK, Italy, Austria, Spain, and Switzerland. Disney Plus has launched its streaming service in France also but with some delay. The government of France was not ready to allow the streaming platform to start its services in the country. The government of France was concerned that the launch of the streaming service would put too much strain on bandwidth utilization. The surge in subscribers is considerable as Disney Plus has 28 million subscribers earlier, as stated by the company.

Disney Plus is just behind Netflix, which has 167 million subscribers all across the world. The other streaming service of Disney Plus, Hulu, has almost 30 million paid subscribers; however, the streaming service is providing its services only in the USA. But, Disney Plus is continuously trying to roll out its services internationally from the beginning of the year 2021. Meanwhile, the head of direct to the consumer of Disney Plus, Kevin Mayer, while expressing his gratitude to the people said in the press conference that the company is genuinely humble towards the appreciation the streaming service is getting from them.

He further said that the company would continue the expansion of its services globally, including Western Europe, Latin America, and Japan. Kevin said that the company would keep delivering the vast array of content rooted in optimism and Joy as great stories and content not only inspires the people but also uplift them. Meanwhile, the chief financial officer of Disney Plus, Christine McCarthy, shared experience and said during the investors meeting that the company is getting the majority of its growth due to the surge in its paid subscribers globally. However, the chief financial officer further said that the company also expects a massive surge in its domestic subscribers. The rise in local subscribers is anticipated due to the premiere of the series from Marvel and Lucasfilm, which is highly anticipated.

Apart from the premiere of the anticipated series, some other shows of the streaming platform are also all set to release, which includes The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Wanda Vision. Disney Plus will release The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in August. In contrast, Wanda Vision could be released in December along with The second season of The Mandalorian, which is all set to return in October. The streaming platform is all set to release many other shows also to allure the people, which includes Frozen 2 and Artemis Fowl. The streaming platform is willing to grow its base among the people all across the world as most of the people are following social distancing due to the ongoing health issue outbreak. As most of the people are staying at home and theatres are closed, and so it is a big opportunity for Disney Plus to entertain its subscriber base. The team of Disney Plus is doing everything to launch some more exciting content on its streaming platform during this particularly tough time, as said by Bob Iger, the former CEO of the streaming platform.
