wow, I haven't been here for a while. but got an e-mail from flickr also saying that it was time to renew my pro acct. I think that is the one where I can post a lot more photos and sets. they said they automatically charged my cc. I think it was like 29.99. for the year. I thought well if that's happening I may as well get involved again. but after reading all of this I don't know..

I have checked my credit card account, nothing seems to be amiss so far. Taking into account Stewart's caution, I will keep may eyes peeled. I had the same email today, what a load of scam artists! Just the sort of thing being tried from various Countries in Africa or Eastern Europe! I arranged for a new credit card when I had the previous email & the number & valid date quoted in this email have expired. However I believe as we arrange continuous cc debit with our original membership the cc company can still transfer charges to new cc! So I had to open the email & click on the cancel membership button. This still leaves me worried that somehow they will use my personal details in some way eg selling them on. I had a premium account with the original webshots and they charged me once per year. I was just paying some bills today and noticed that I had a charge on a credit card for $2.99 for webshots (I thought webshots was toast). I did some research and it says that if you are to sign up for a premium account it is free 7 day trial and $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year. So as a former premium account holder instead of charging me the annual price of $24.99, they decided to start auto charging me a monthly 2.99 fee which comes to a total of 35.88 annually that is a whole $10.89 over their premium price. Of course the 2.99 is easier to miss on a credit card if you're not paying attention. For me I missed it for two months. I really liked webshots back in the day, but I got mad when they did what they did. I paid for those pictures I had. What is the point of paying a premium fee if they just can take all of their pictures away. Then they say they are going to call themselves Smile. The only ones who were smiling were the ones running off with the money they took from dedicated customers. Friends, recently I'm struggling with my log in on the site. The usual standard.

You probably should double-check your bank statements to see if Webshots made any unauthorized charges to your account in the past couple of months. If you were a premium member and haven't changed your debit/credit card since leaving Webshots, there may be a possibility that you might've missed this email and got charged. If you did get charged, I would suggest filing a complaint with your bank and do a chargeback. File a complaint with your Attorney General, and file a compaint with the bbbonline. You can try to resolve it with Webshots, but you might not get anywhere with them. This is pretty sneaky of them to pull something like this. It's ok if they just offered it to you but to say that they're going to start charging your card soon unless you cancel is unacceptable as emails do get lost or overlooked so please be aware and take necessary action so you don't fall victim to this. Some time ago shortly after the Webshots Exodus, some members still wanted to download photos for their desktops. Penny told me that Webshots would eventually provide this service separate from Smile. Webshots members were having a lot of problems with the Webshots desktop software -photos came up missing, libraries were deleted, nothing was where it was supposed to be, the software kept crashing, and whatnot. After that, I hadn't heard anything about the wallpaper program up until some members received an email stating that the service was going to be available soon. I didn't get that email. But I got this one instead.

They didn't send me an email, but have now twice debited my credit card. Having cancelled their authority to debit my credit card when they announced Webshots was closing, I am staggered that they now charge me for a service I have not requested and do not use. I have raised a challenge with my bank who will attempt to recoup the charges. While US$2.99 is no big deal, their dishonesty is quite another matter. Originally posted 75 months ago. These guys are amazing, I have never subscribed to wallpapers and now they would 'sell' it to me, with my old premium webshots account if I don't cancel this thing. Pretty low if you ask me. When I cancelled it on the cancel link, the last question was in Spanish. I mean, I speak dutch and english. "esta usted seguro que desea anular esta suscripcion". while the internet was blocked until you pressed the yes, or cancel button. I doubt that it's a scam. It's just not the way I expected that Webshots would present this new program. You don't just contact all of the former Webshots premium members and tell them that you're going to start billing them for this new program unless they cancel. This is wrong on every level. Like I said, what if you never received any of these emails?
Canceling your subscription will cause it not to renew. If you cancel your subscription, it will continue until your next bill date then, the subscription will expire and will not be invoiced again. 72 months ago (permalink)

Wow, they must be getting desperate for money over there. I didn't hesitate for 2 seconds to click on the cancel link. I don't know how or why they've kept me in their system - I never subscribed to wallpapers and I was under the impression that my account was removed the day they shut the old site down.

If you don't remember the registered email address and password to log in and cancel the account, we created a Cancellation Form. Fill out your full name as listed on the credit card currently being billed and your current email address. Under feedback, enter any information about the account that will help us locate and cancel the account for you.
