VBoxManage modifyvm " MyVirtualMachineName " --natpf1 "guestweb,tcp,,80,,80"
#The primary network interface allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp.
End user forums for VirtualBox.
What can I do to make this thing work?
And ifconfig on the host gives me: Code: Select all Expand viewCollapse view eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:66:a0:61:5f inet6 addr: fe80::219:66ff:fea0:615f/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:18010 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:15020 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:16613942 (16.6 MB) TX bytes:2649767 (2.6 MB) Interrupt:43 Base address:0x8000.

Here's my guest's /etc/network/interfaces: Code: Select all Expand viewCollapse view # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback.
Then on the host I have in /etc/network/interfaces: Code: Select all Expand viewCollapse view auto lo iface lo inet loopback.

The host's /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules says: Code: Select all Expand viewCollapse view # PCI device 0x10ec:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:01:00.0 (r8169) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR =="00:19:66:a0:61:5f", ATTR.
And now I can finally ping Google from inside that little sucker.

Ghhh, never mind, someone from Friendica just clarified it for me. It turns out their solution for hosting your own server is simply not general enough, as it caters only to people who have their own router and their own little network at home. In my case, since I have only one computer that connects directly to the ISP, I have to select NAT instead of Bridged as the network setup for the guest machine, plus I have to add a port forwarding rule (at least) for port 80 for the guest machine, with a command like this:
Board index ‹ General ‹ VirtualBox on Linux Hosts Change font size Print view FAQ Login.
So at step 7 of the gu >no working connection at this point: I can't ping the outside world, nor do I get a response if I ping the guest from the host.
Here's what I have on the guest in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules: Code: Select all Expand viewCollapse view # PCI device 0x1022:2000 (pcnet32) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR =="08:00:27:bb:44:07", ATTR.
I'm trying to run this pre-packaged Debian server image: downloads . friendica . eu/Friendica . zip . on top of my Ubuntu 12.04 that connects to my ISP directly via PPPoE (I don't have my own router) . according to these instructions: github . com/friendica/friendica/wiki/How-to : -Hosting-a-Friendica-site-at-home . using VirtualBox v4.1.12.
