If you didn't post there, why not? If you can complain about Comodo in these forums then surely you have the time to ask a question in their support forums.

Bummer that it didn't work on your system. Works fine on mine, but of course every system is/can be different. Also surprised to hear that no help was available in the forums.
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall User Guide.
Best of luck with your next firewall.
Maybe this is the problem?
By the way, Kerio 2.1.5 also passed *the granddaughter test*.

Just use Zonealarm. I've used Kerio 2, Sygate, Netveda, Kerio 4, Ghostwall and Outpost. I've even used Blackice defender for over a year once upon a time. I've done all the rule creating stuff and enable this, disable that and every time i test them i got stealth. Who's a clever boy then? But, and i say but, it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do. I also never felt overly sure that i hadn't left 'something' open. I use Zonealarm free nowadays. It does what it says on the tin. It blocks incoming and outgoing unless i allow them. Now obviously there are these things called leaktests. Well i have my HIPS for those. They require a file to be run. They really are a vulnerability myth. People read too much into leaktests. If the file isn't allowed to run then there's going to be no circumventing the firewall. Simple really.

Edited to add: Here's some more info from their knowledge base, available from the support page.
The last computers I've disinfected recently was infected by spywares using complex methods such as user-land rootkits to hide their files and processes, they are more sneaky than ever, and I think that bringing awareness is more of a benefit than saying that all of that belongs to myth.
PPTP uses IP protocol 47, designed for "General Routing Encapsulation" or GRE packets. A common mistake in configuring firewalls for use with PPTP is to open PPTP port 1723 (allowing connections to be established) but forget to forward GRE protocol type 47 (denying port data from passing through the tunnel). Some operating systems include "PPTP ping" utilities (pptpsrv and pptpclnt in Windows 2000) that verify both PPTP ports are opened.
SecurePoint is the only firewall that I've seen so far that comes with a 80 pages manual in pdf format. Bravo!
Also BitDefender has a Documentation page with User Guides for all their products.

And in the event of bluescreens, i should be able to boot to safe mode and run the uninstaller, no problems.

That is a perfect firewall for me LOL.
They are quick, and i can tell you that if you posted your problem (I don't know if you already have), i myself will do my best to get you an answer, although i cannot answer it myself (Because i don't actually use the firewall YET).
You can of course use a firewall passing 0 leaktests with an HIPS which will take care of them, I don't disagree with that. But one way or another, you are taking them into account, the way is your choice. Just don't tell to the people that leaktests are not a real security issue, because that would be even worse.

My 8-year old granddaughter configured a new install of Outpost PRO simply by putting it in learning mode & answering the pop-ups for a few days.

IMO, the firewall business is an absolute chaos.
2006-Sep-29 10:16 pm.
I don't want to hijack this thread, but the leaktests aren't a myth, they are real practical ways of stressing a personal firewall security. Some methods are simply used everyday in the wild by malwares (e.g DLL/code injection).
Here's the direct download link:
Have you tried configuring a custom rule in the 'Network Monitor'? Select 'IP', then 'IP details', choose 'GRE', and then 'Allow', appropriate direction(s), and IP address, (IP address) ranges, zones, etc if any? Hope this helps and sorry if this post is too late.
Or you can go to this page and download it from there.
"It is too hard to use" , Indeed the conformance of the application and network rules and the ease of use and understanding is going to be fixed. This is something i am personally waiting for.
You know what, the uninstaller of any security product must be 100% because i will try a product with a good uninstaller because i am confident that i can remove it and go back to where i was before trying the firewall/ antivirus.
Then, you may not include them in your security evaluation, it's your right, as others may judge to take them into account. Moreover, you are using a real concrete and strong security software to fight this "myth"; not so unreal finally.

On the other hand, if users don't do some basic troubleshooting and research, there will be few products suitable for them.
COMODO are refurbishing the logic of rule making at the application level and network level so they are both logical in respect to each other, once this has happened their will be new guides in shockwave form and HTML form (As their are right now, but it is too confusing personally, and will wait for the next version to fix this).
On the one hand, folks shouldn't use a firewall that's too complicated for them to properly configure as they'll either be unhappy with its performance or misconfigure it and leave holes that can be exploited.
2006-Sep-28 6:41 pm.
With VPN you need to post on the forum and ask what rules you should implement.
As I pointed out in my previous post, here's a link that will take you to Comodo's 71 page manual in pdf format. I guess technically you are correct, maybe I can contact Comodo and ask them to add a few filler pages so that it meets your 80 page requirement.

Put it this way, could you ever imagine an engineering project being delivered without the supporting documentation? Why should a software firewall be different?
I wouldn't blame the firewall but the SOFTWARE COMPANY that releases a product with the appropriate documentation required to set it up and go.
Maybe this is the problem?

The forum is the BEST I HAVE EVER COME ACCROSS, i have asked many questions, hard and simple and they were answered quickly and thoroughly. And believe me i gave them a grilling at the start to get some technical facts about the firewall to gauge it's effectiveness.
Why aren't the others doing the same thing?
uniqs 3757.
One last thing. There IS a 71 page user guide available for Comodo firewall. I guess you didn't look that hard to find it. It may not help solve your problem but it does exist.
Why aren't the others doing the same thing? .
When she was done, OP passed all but one of the 4 leak tests I tried it on.
Thx for that. I apologise for the rant.
You know what? Life is too short. I searched the Comodo forums, which are the only doc available.

When I let her use Comodo, it produced a BSOD after just a couple of hours. (Image for DOS to the rescue.)
"allow all incoming and outgoing from anything to anything" depends on what Port you are specifying, this type of rule would be used for P2P apps, i am not sure if it is a default rule.
Now I'm not saying that Comodo is NG because it isn't configurable by an 8-year-old, but since Outpost IS, then I think it's the better choice.
So much for Comodo.
Zone Labs has had pdf User Guide for long time. User Guide for current 6.5 ZoneAlarm firewall products is 267 pages not including pages for Index.

I have not check all the software firewall vendors sites but there's a couple I'm aware of that have pdf User Guides you can download .
I say this in all friendliness. Leaktests are tools to help you, you may choose to use/rely on them, or not. If they can just even make more people like you using HIPS to monitor what is trying to run on their system, then already it will be a huge victory.

I guess they all are too busy thinking about money instead of helping the end-user.
Security → So much for Comodo.
Well it is possible that BOTH ARE TRUE. Please don't engage in fallacious reasoning.
You say you "searched" the forums. Did you post anything at all in their forums about your problem? If so, can you provide a link to it so that we can see the responses?

Kind of broad statement to make unless you've personally checked ALL vendors' sites.
