Just finished this. YES. There is a lot of grinding but I like the game anyway. It is like a Zen thing. I found it relaxing. I would give it four stars out of five stars if that were possible.. tl,dr; It's a solid game for the fans of previous installments, but world/story wise HotK II stays my favorite.

If you've never played a game from this series, save money and get the first one because it should be cheaper/discounted now, check it out, and if you like it... get 2 and 3, because it's basically more of the same.. 6.5/10
I recommend the game just barely it was enjoyable to a certain degree wished it was longer, some of the continuous potion production and food making did seem repetitive probably spent in game time at least 30 mins if not more of cooking and potion making.
Unfortunately the story wasn't compelling at all, had barely any depth all the monsters seemed like the same ones from HOK II at least with the previous game they added new monsters these seemed like the same old ones all slogged together.
Admittedly I did start off with the demo which gave me less of a grind since I had already had 50+ combat ability/100 fishing/80 archery/70 cooking 1000 food saved up.
What was a disappointment was the demo basically gave the game away about 1/3 of the game; by the time I got around to the other part the game felt considerably shorter.
What I thought was nice, but just made the game way to easy is the map access ability to go and buy items straight off; none of that backtracking just straight up buying the items you need from the shopkeepers rather than visiting the areas.
What I had enjoyed previously with the prior games was the casualness and the "Where's Waldo" of where all the items are; there was little to none of that, I didn't have to stare hard at my screen to track down small hard to find items, all the achievements could be earned as long as you waited and grinded it out.
All the quests were incredibly easy; just access the map buy the ingredients or hunt down the monsters rinse and repeat.
. I have purchased all three Hero of the Kingdom titles, and enjoyed them all. They are a unique kind of adventure game in that they have an rpg-like plot and quest system, but the mechanics of a hidden item game crossed with elements of gathering/management games in which you must collect and craft supplies to meet your goals (and win battles). There is no interactive combat, no time pressure, and no being defeated unless you just give up. A willingness to compulsively gather is the primary requirement to play.

I think if you enjoyed the first two in the series, you will enjoy this latest installment. However, I felt this was the most grindy of the three titles. On the other hand, I found this quality amusing as well. Example: If I was preparing for a battle to clear out a cave of trolls - first cook and eat 400 bowls of fish soup, then craft 5 spears and shields because they tend to break after each use, oh and I'll need 5 healing potions per troll so 30 potions should do, and on the way I should really stop to scoop up any frogs I see because I'll need a couple dozen of those for alchemy later. The thief companion who is following me around without helping me must think I am a psychotic hoarder, but that's what it takes to be a Hero in this game.. Barely made it to the end of the second "area" (out of four I presume) and grind became extremely tedious and boring. Previous games were meticulously calculated so that you collect just enough resources to progress if you know where to look for them and how to spend them carefully.

Here the resources like mushrooms, eggs (even pearls!) became respawnable and the game quickly became heavy grinding: fight 5 monsters, cutscene, fight 5 monsters, cutscene, fight, fight, fight with each fight requiring more and more potions, which in turn require to grind for herbalism or money to buy the potions, cutscene, fight, fight, fight and so on. Out from the really nice game with a little bit of everything, this became a grind and fighting simulator. So here I am, buying grain, making it into the floor and reselling for 5g profit in order to buy a potion and kill another monster simply to progress. I don't even fight the side monsters who are there just for combat levelling or ingredients, I simply want to progress through the game, but instead of clever chain quest rewards from the previous games from the series, it's just a potion / food grinding. But hey, you can grind without moving to another location now, simply buy / sell what you need right from the map screen! Hooray?

Adding some professions seemed alright, but leveling them is a terrible grind, so it's simply faster and less boring to grind money and buy what you need. Sadly can't recommend this one, taking into consideration previous two games were probably shorter, probably didn't differ much from each other, but they were really fun to play and progress through, they were cleverly made to my mind, while this is more like a microtransactions type game. Maybe it was training grounds for HotK IV, which will be F2P mobile cashgrab, who knows, all devs need to pay the bills, but I think it would be honest not to name this game HotK anymore if things are going in that direction.. Negative: It can be a slow slog getting through areas that have enemies, but it's not all that bothersome.
