Each year, over seven billion tons of resources are mined. Additionally, two million hectares of forests are chopped down and burned. Leaving only 28 percent of wild forests for the globe. These stats are not favorable for us, steps are taken to find alternative fuel conversion systems other than mining and wood.
The experts are finding alternative fuel conversion systems to find ways to produce energy without destroying the nature. And it also deliver clean and cheap energy. It will definitely have positive impact for the planet. There are greener way to produce energy that are shared below.
What is Alternative Fuel Source?
What is alternative fuel? The world has relied on conventional fuels such as fossil fuel (petroleum product), coal and natural gas. Nuclear material such as thorium and uranium is also used. Sadly, the conventional energy is produced, it has huge environment and health issues at stake. That’s why experts trying to discover means of producing energy that are environmental friendly.
Understanding alternative is mandatory in these days. Everybody is committed to reduce carbon footprint around this planet for healthy environment. However, it’s difficult to cognize or ignore deliberately. To educate below are the shared means of alternative fuel that will surely contribute positively in carbon-free environment. We need to educate!
• Electricity
Nowadays, electric cars are new innovation in many countries because it’s highly efficient and has no environmental hazards so far. Electricity is used as an alternative fuel for fuel cell and battery-powered cars.
Fuel cell produce electricity without combustion or pollution. You simply need a standard electrical source to recharge the battery of your car. But the other side of the story is, the electricity produced is still causing pollution and combustion because of conventional means are applied to produce electricity.
• Biodiesel
If you want new fuel to replace oil, biodiesel fuel is a good option. Biodiesel fuel comes from vegetable oils and animal fats. It can also be recycled from the restaurants after they’ve disposed the used cooking oil.
Car engines are converted to burn biodiesel in pure form. It can be blended with petroleum diesel to use in unmodified engines. The positive side is, it’s safe, reduces air pollution and biodegradable. But the negative side is due to limited infrastructure in terms of production and supply, it’s not commonly available.
• Methanol
Another interesting alternative to gasoline is Methanol. The wood alcohol that’s extracted is flexible fuel for vehicles designed to run on M85. It’s a blend of 85 percent Methanol and 15 percent gasoline. The automakers haven’t produced methanol-powered vehicles. If they start producing, it can become a significant alternative fuel to use a source powering fuel-cell.
Unfortunately, auto industry hasn’t shown any interest towards Methanol powered cars so far.
• Hydrogen
If you mix hydrogen with a natural gas can become a great alternative fuel source for few types of internal combustion engines. You can also use hydrogen in fuel-cell vehicles that can run on electricity. Since hydrogen has no emission, it can be a great source of fuel. However, due to production cost and lack of infrastructure it is not commonly found.
It’s a zero emission fuel when burnt with oxygen. It’s used in fuel cells or internal combustion engines to power vehicles or electric devices.
• P-Series Fuels
Natural gas liquids, methyl tetrahydrofuran (MeTHF) and ethanol are the combination of P-series fuels. A very little known fuel for many countries but it is very flexible fuel for vehicles. This fuel can either be used on its own or you can add gasoline to the tank. Sadly, the automobile manufacturers are not making flexible fuel vehicles at this time.
