Losing an electronic device is probably the last thing anyone would want. But accidents do happen and there can be no change in that. Although it’s highly unlikely to lose a computer one can slip your MacBook in their bag easily, even if it is by mistake. No matter how you lost or misplaced your device, there are always some ways using which you can use to find out your device very easily.

Apple recently introduced Find My feature on its latest iOS 13, iPad, and macOS Catalina. This app is an amalgamation of Find My iPhone and Find My Friends, and will help you locate the missing Apple devices. It will also alert your friends, with whom you’ve shared your location, about the device. You can also ask the app to play a sound on your missing device.

But make sure that you have enabled the feature on your device at all times. You won’t be able to locate your MacBook if the feature is disabled. Along with this, keep the Offline Finding feature turned on as this will help you locate an Apple device that’s not connected to any network. Also, ensure that you sign in to the Find My app with the same Apple ID you used on your missing device. You can also use iCloud.com’s Find My feature and enter the lost device’s Apple ID. Here are the following methods you can use to locate your Mac:

Find Mac on another Apple Device

Using the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad to locate the lost MacBook is the easiest option of all. You have to sign into the same Apple ID that you used on the Mac, and then follow these steps:

Open Find My app on any of your other Apple devices.
Tap Devices at the bottom of the screen.
Select your Mac from the list of devices appearing on the screen.
4. When the Mac icon appears on the map, you can double-tap it or use the pinch gesture to zoom in. From the Map section, you can also switch to a Hybrid or Satellite view using the Information icon given at the top right.
The iPhone users can swipe up from the bottom of their screen to check the full list of additional actions. In contrast, the iPad users will automatically see these actions displaying on-screen when they select a device. You can choose to play a sound, get directions, enable notifications, mark your Mac as lost, or erase the device. All of these steps apply to your friends and family as well, who are trying to locate the device.

On Another Mac

You can also locate your lost MacBook with the help of another Mac by following these steps:

Open Find My app on the Mac you are using to locate the lost device.
At the top of the sidebar, click on Devices.
Select your Mac from the list of devices appearing on the screen.
When you find the Mac icon appearing on the map, give a double-click on it to zoom in or use the plus sign at the bottom-right side. You can also use the bottom buttons to switch from Map to Hybrid or Satellite view. Then, click on the Information icon appearing next to your MacBook’s name on the map. You can then allow it to play a sound on the device, get directions, or enable notifications for when the device is found, reported as lost, or to erase it.

Using iCloud.com

Another best method to incorporate is to use the iCloud website, i.e. iCloud.com on any browser, then sign in to the same Apple ID you used on your lost Mac, and then continue to follow these steps:

From the main/home page of iCloud, select Find iPhone.
Select All Devices at the top to find a list of devices appearing on the screen.
Choose your missing Mac device.
A dot will appear on the screen showing your Mac’s location.
Give a double-click the dot or click on the plus sign at the top-left side of the screen to zoom in.
If you fail to find your Mac even when the Find My feature was turned on then the reason could be that the battery has run out, or it’s not connected to a Wi-Fi, or maybe the location (where the device is kept) does not support Find My feature. And in case Find My fails to locate your device, you can contact Apple’s support at any time.
