Windows 7 has reached the end of its useful life (EOL), which means that Microsoft will no longer receive security updates. You can no longer postpone the update to Windows 10, but it looks so different from Windows 7 that a change could be a daunting prospect.
Before starting, it is a good idea to create a folder in which to save background images, icons and other files that you will download on the fly. This makes them easier to find and if you want to change to the default appearance of Windows 10, you can easily remove them at once.
1. Get the background image
The easiest way to make Windows 10 better known is to take one of the classic wallpapers. WPArena has compiled a list of all the official Windows 7 backgrounds that you can download. Simply save the selected drawing in a suitable location, right click on it and select "Set as wallpaper".
2. Restore the boot menu
In Windows 10, the Start menu returned to the relief of many, but it still looks very different from what it knows and loves in Windows 7. Microsoft has tried to completely remove the Windows 8 Start menu and replace it with a screen. Colorful rectangular tiles similar to the selection of applications on your phone.
With a free tool called Open-Shell-Menu, you can restore the menu to its former glory. Download the latest version and run the installer as shown. There are no potentially unwanted programs to worry about.
Start the program, click on the "Start Menu Style" tab and select "Windows 7 Style". Click "OK" and open the Start menu to see the change.
3. Click on the Start button
The Open Shell menu does not contain the classic Windows 7 start button, but you can download a copy of the old Classic Shell forums. Download the BtartButtons.zip file from the previous entry and extract the content to an appropriate location.
Select the "Start button" tab in the Open Shell menu and select "Replace start button". Click on "Custom Button" and choose "Button Image". Go to the location where you saved the icons and experiment with the different options to find one that works for you.
4. Recreate the aerodynamic theme
One of the most attractive features of Windows 7 was the Aero Glass theme, which gave windows and toolbars a smooth and translucent appearance. Yes, the simple design of Windows 10 required more resources, but it looked great and modern PCs shouldn't have trouble handling the effect.
Opening the Shell menu can help restore this aspect to the Start menu. Select the "Mask" tab and select "Windows Aero" from the drop-down list to apply the effect.
5. Restore the original sound
This last tip is anything but important, but it's fun. Download the startup sound from Windows 7 to MP3 (you will find the different download options on the right) and convert it to WAV format using the online audio converter.
Search for "Sound" to open the Windows audio options and select "Sound Control Panel" on the right. Click on the "Sounds" tab and check the "Play Windows startup sound" box. Select "Connect to Windows" from the list of sounds listed above, click "Browse" and navigate to the downloaded Windows 7 startup sound.
If you choose the best antivirus software for Windows, you need to find one that protects your PC.This is what you should look for.
