I've got one major criticism, which is how high the vocals are in the mix - it's not an album-ruining thing, but it can be a bit off-putting in places.
After four years, Primordial return with a new album to the joy of the fans. This release was highly anticipated, after following their masterpiece “To The Nameless Dead”. We get something that is highly similar in concept to the previous album, perhaps toned down just a bit.
“Redemption At The Puritans Hand” is a really good follow up to “To the Nameless Dead”, without repeating the formula too insistently.
The best metal band in existence.
“Redemption At The Puritans Hand” is a solid release overall, consistent, and very much coherent lyrically speaking, however, I can’t help not enjoying it all the way through. Some parts of the songs, aren’t necessarily bad, or boring, the album as a whole I guess was too long, or at least it felt like it was going on forever. One of the reasons might be that the band always stretches out their songs, without adding another part to them, but of course this band is not progressive, and I never expected them to do so.

Y como ejemplo, las guitarras, sonando opacas, sin fuerza, además de sin talento, pero esa ya no es responsabilidad del productor. Además, las voces suenan como enlatadas, tanto en gruñidos como en limpias, sin garra, sin agresividad.
Primordial es para muchos uno de los estandartes del Folk Metal europeo, con una importante legión de seguidores detrás, como atestigüan el número de votaciones con el que cuentan y la nota final de las mismas en esta misma web, aunque en mi opinión diste mucho de la realidad.
A definite grower, to an extent of sharing the top spot of the whole Primordial discography with The Gathering Wilderness. The standout tracks are Bloodied Yet Unbowed, The Mouth of Judas and Death of the Gods, but the album flows so well that it makes picks such as these unnecessary. Lyricwise the stuff is top notch, as always. Some people have been complaining about the rhythmic delivery of the lyrics been bound to the song structure too much, evident on the tracks 2,3 and 8 at least. I don't mind it since Nemtheanga's vocals are superb as always, but it's an understandable flaw for some. The production values are flawless, I dig the simplified solutions compared to the previous record, which seemed a little too clean at times. The only letdown is that the vinyl pressing is exactly the same as the cd version. I would've liked some different artwork and whatnot.
If you expect something different from the previous album, you’ll be disappointed; musically, the two albums share the same style and sound, as it was simply a second part to “To The Nameless Dead”. Thus, we have an archaic sounding production, with harsh guitars, vocals, and drums. Together, they create a dark, bleak, but at times hopeful sounding atmosphere. Whether this album is darker and more effective, it’s highly debatable. However, I can’t deny that this album has quite some moments that are distinct and unique from the other albums.
I found myself really liking some songs on this one, like the first two songs that open the album, “No Grave Deep Enough” and “Lain With The Wolf”, both having an amazingly dark and bleak atmosphere, even in the harsher moments. “The Mouth Of Judas” was kind of catchy for this record, it has a brilliant melody and a great atmosphere, and “Death Of The Gods”, the final track, is a perfect ending for such an album. Other good songs would be “The Black Hundred”, in all it’s diversity, and “Blooded Yet Unbowed” once again having a good melody and haunting atmosphere.

A solid effort, no one can deny it: one of those albums you feel like something is wrong, but you just don’t see it, because in the end you have almost no complaints. Possibly the only thing is that it is feels, like I mentioned, way too long, and much more than just an hour. Nevertheless an album that is certainly worth the wait for Primordial fans.
Sumado a lo anterior, la banda presenta un nivel bastante bajo en términos de talento instrumental/compositivo. Ni un sólo desarrollo instrumental reseñable, ni un sólo tema/idea/melodía para quitarse el sombrero.

Lo dicho, canciones flojas, melodías sin gancho, instrumentación parca, sonido mediocre y en general disco muy aburrido. Folk/Doom Metal sin chispa y sin grandes ideas.
A very deservedly acclaimed effort by Ireland's celtic Folk Metal masters - admittedly, not Primordial's best effort, but considering the quality of their other albums that's hardly a criticism. Like all good folk metal, the album quite easily evokes the folk music and culture of their native land, and as usual, it's been produced and performed to sound all big and epic and make you want to stand on a pile of the bodies of your foes etcetera. That's not to say that this album is one-dimensional, as there are plenty of dark, brooding - even bleak moments - indeed, it's a very atmospheric album overall, which I like.
