Adding the Data Transfer Add-In to Microsoft Excel.
This document explains how to add the Microsoft Excel Data Transfer add-in if the add-in is not available. This document only covers the Excel Data Transfer upload up to and including V5R4 iSeries Access for Windows.
Resolving The Problem.
Important Note: This document discusses Client Access for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT, Client Access Express, and IBM iSeries Access products. These names essentially refer to the same product; however, the functionality and name changed over the last several releases. For the purposes of this document, the terms Client Access, Client Access Express, and iSeries Access may be used interchangeably. Where a difference is important, the version of the product is used to identify the differences.
Client Access Express, iSeries Access for Windows, and Client Access provide a Microsoft Excel add-in for data transfer that allows you to run download and upload transfer requests from 32-bit versions of Microsoft Excel (uploads starting with Client Access Express V5R1). If the add-in is not already installed, following are the instructions to install the Microsoft Excel data transfer add-in.
Note: The document does not pertain to V6R1 or V7R1 System i Access for Windows. Check the System i Access version by running cwbckver from a PC command prompt.
If using V6R1/V7R1 System i Access, refer to technote, COM-Based Microsoft Excel Data Transfer Add-In for V6R1 and Beyond . Also see this COM-Based document for installation of the 64-bit Excel data transfer add-in which is supported when using V7R1 System i Access with the latest service pack.
This document also does not pertain to Excel 2013. For the Excel 2013 support statement, refer to technote N1019966 IBM i Access for Windows Data Transfer and Excel 2013 .
If Microsoft Excel was installed on your PC before Client Access or iSeries Access, the Client Access or iSeries Access setup program will automatically install the Microsoft Excel add-in when you choose to install Data Transfer Excel Add-In support. This support is installed during a typical and full installation; however, it might not have been installed in a custom or 5250 installation. With Office 2000 Microsoft Excel, automatic installation of the Data Transfer add-in might not occur; the add-in can be done manually as demonstrated below.
Note: These instructions are also included in the Client Access or iSeries Access User's Guide, which is installed as part of Client Access or iSeries Access. In the User's Guide, select the Index tab and start typing Excel . The option Excel add-ins, installing will show up in the list.
