IPhone 12 could become thinner with new screen technology

It seems that the iPhone 12 may be one of the most significant iPhone upgrades of recent times-so far we have heard many rumors and speculations that the latest news in the supply chain is pointing to a new type of display technology.

Elec said that at least some iPhone 12 models will be equipped with LG-made OLED screens whose touchscreen circuitry is embedded in the display itself, rather than on a separate layer.

This means that the screen is cheaper and thinner-it may cause the iPhone 12 to be thinner, although we haven't held our breath for a particularly low price.

The same report indicates that LG is about to switch to LTPO (low temperature polycrystalline oxide) screen technology used in Apple Watch 4 and Apple Watch 5, which may lead to more energy efficient displays.

Thanks to LTPO, the Apple Watch 5 can maintain battery life throughout the day even when it is always displayed, so let's hope that iPhone 12 can further improve battery life.

Indeed, this technology can even enable the option of always showing on future iPhones-always visible lock screen-a feature that high-end Android phones have had for some time.

However, it is unclear whether the LTPO upgrade will be in place for the 2020 iPhone ahead of time. We may have to wait until the 2021 iPhone to always display the screen.

This year, we may get up to five new iPhones, four of which are iPhone 12 models combined with newer iPhone SE 2 devices. Camera and screen size may be the main differences between them.
