“Mafia: Definitive Edition” review

Mafia: Definitive Edition is an action game, which is developed by Hangar 13. This game is a remake of the video game Mafia that came in the year 2002. It is published by 2K Games. Also, it is the fourth part of the Mafia series. Mafia: Definitive Edition was released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 25, 2020. The game takes place in a fictional city known as Lost Heaven, which is inspired by Chicago in the 1930s. The story of the game revolves around the rise and fall of Tommy Angelo, who is a taxi driver-turned-mobster. In this remake, the game has improved the gameplay as compared to the original Mafia, the entire setting has changed, mission dynamics have enhanced, and a new voice cast has also been introduced.

Story: Welcome to the Family

Tommy Angelo was a taxi driver and forced by two members of the Salieri crime family to help them escape from a surprise attack on them by a rival family criminal Syndicate. Although he was paid for the work he had done, he lost his job and cab after the day when the rival family targeted him for helping the two members escape. Later, Tommy got revenge on his attackers before agreeing to join Salieri’s operation. His jobs were to assist with the operations of Salieri’s rackets across the city. During this entire operation, Tommy was under the supervision of Salieri’s right-hand man Frank Colletti.

Gameplay
“Mafia: Definitive Edition” is an excellent remake of the original Mafia with a lot of changes such as the introduction of the new assets along with an expanded story. The missions and arcs of the game are similar to that of the original Mafia. Motorcycles have been introduced in the recent remake of this game. Players used to control Tommy Angelo throughout the game’s single-player campaign in the 2002 game.

The gameplay mechanics were adopted from “Mafia III.” This remake also includes a “Classic Difficulty” setting, which is the hardest difficulty setting that changes some of the gameplay mechanics like, management of ammunition, and the response of police to crimes. There is another mode included in this remake of Mafia known as “Free Ride” mode. It allows players to explore the city on their own without any objectives. This is one of the best and additional features from the original Mafia, which did not allow the players to roam around the Lost Heaven.

Graphics

Usually, remakes do not have that much attention to detail because of its original part. However, “Mafia: Definitive Edition” is far different from this tendency. Lighting and reflection are the major components that play a significant role in separating the remake from its original. As you know, the game is not a free-roam, so the time of the day depends on the story of the game. This is the best part of the game where the graphics are beautiful to watch even at night timings.

After exploring and discussing all the features and qualities of the upcoming game, Mafia: Definitive Edition, we have concluded that it is going to be the best part of the Mafia video game series so far. It includes a lot of changes from the original Mafia along with the beautiful graphics, which will make the game more exciting.
