A really decent little game that doesnt hold your hand when entering combat. If you can look past the sexual content in this game there is a quite creepy little story to be told. If you do decide to ignore some of the in game healing options and the ummm stuff you unlock once you get past chapter 3, it makes the combat that much more engaging.. and this is the second game i finish today. and actually was good too being celeste the first. if you like plataformers buy it. if you dont like them or dont know what it is. play rabi ribi. Now onto this game. after my bad review of the other dungeon crawler of IF international, i have to say that i like this game. sadly the difficulty is rare. just too rare. Basicly the game have some parts where you will thing. ok this is unfair. others where . this is too easy. and boring. The good news is that game have 3 difficulties so you adjust your game based in what you find fun. i play almost all in horror. still when a boss 1 aoe kill me. i think that is bad desing. more when rest of place im doing it too fine. The story is fine and with only 1 ending is good. sadly that ending could be a paint to get. needing a chapter 3 thing that unless you know what to do. you will lose a lot of time finding that you made the wrong choice ( and nothing prepare you for know what you have to do) Still if you really like dungeon crawlers you will enjoy do all again.. Weird flex but ok and also this game has a good story too.. Review based on my playtime through Chapter 4 - Horror Difficulty) (May Contain light spoilers) An incredibly well made Dungeon Crawler, full of interesting mechanics, characters, and plot. Few things go wrong here, with missteps revolved around a lacklustre job system, and a handful of unexplained mechanics and systems. The dungeons all have varied design and aesthetics, introducing their own little mechanics and secrets to discover as you delve further into them, including areas that require you to backtrack with later characters to discover. The dungeons are on the long side, however, and may start to wear on you as you try to fully explore them to farm XP and drops, as well as looking out for treasure and Collection/Emotion points. The cast of Blood Maidens that I've encountered so far are all varied in design and personality, having their own quirks and actions. One of the aspects that I like is that the group always feels like a unit, and doesn't seem disjointed. They're always talking about each other in the VN segments, as well as appearing and helping each other out. They all feel like a group that wants to be together, which is important for RPGs. There's also a nice little Affection system where you can gift the characters items and furniture for their room, but it does little aside from a few VN segments and CGs. As for the side characters, they're all pretty varied as well, also feeling like they belong with the world and other characters. They all have their secrets, and a few of them are fairly intriguing as you slowly start to learn about the unbecoming nature and hidden interests. Now for the big one, Gameplay. There are a lot of aspects to this game, and a fair bit to manage over the course of the game, which may or may not overwhelm you; while the game is good at (mostly) introducing you to them, they quickly build into abundance which may not be for everyone. The Blood System as I'll refer to it as is also fairly engaging, giving you multiple ways to handle it. Managing Jacks Blood while trying to to soothe the Corruption levels as the Maidens get blood on them also gives you something more to pay attention to than blindly spamming abilities or attacks, giving combat an interesting flow. There's also a small minigame where you rub your blood into the Maidens to give them bonuses and slower corruption buildup for the time you spend in a dungeon. The job system in this game is probably the most lacklustre part for me. While it's true there are 20ish jobs, they're shared amongst the cast, with each archetype having 4 each. Each job has only a few abilities, and getting the required crystals to switch jobs at the start can be a pain. Each job also has their own stat weights, and you can't swap freely between jobs, even if you've unlocked them as you'll need a Job Rite which you get every 10 levels per character, and they can only be used on said character. This means you'll be locked into the starter job for a while as you try to farm or obtain the Blood and levels necessary to swap jobs. Thankfully, once you've swapped to a job, you still have access to the previous Jobs spells, and can even spend points into further leveling them up making for a light multi-job system. Overall, it's a very good Dungeon Crawler, one that I'd seriously recommend checking out. Pros +Varied, likeable cast +Good array of gameplay systems to toy with +Blood System makes combat more fun +Varied dungeon design +Engaging dungeons to explore +Very colorful and beautiful art +Fantasic English Dub +Waifus +Lewd Rubbing minigame ( ) Neutral Upgrade System is a little boring and the required crystals often overlap with other important things First Person system can make some stuff a little annoying Enemy models are kind of rough Dungeons are very lengthy later in the game Negatives -Blood Devolution System that hardly seems useful -No easy way to reset Maidens build/skills, this is unfortunately tied to the Blood Devo.. Large but empty floors Some good ideas and some not Just play Etrian.. The port runs well for my old laptop so no complaints in that department. Definetely worth a shot for dungeon crawlers and spooks out there. Bloody good game tho. Will recommend playing on normal difficulty for first-timers.. please go play a game that actually rewards you with stuff in the damn dungeon instead of this like please go play literally any other dungeon crawler but especially go play Etrian Odyssey instead the postgame for this game is 3 100x100 tile maps and none of it is interesting and if that doesn't raise some huge in' red flags I don't know what will. I'm very split in my review of this this game. On one hand as a huge fan of the Etrian OD games, this genre of game really clicks with me. What few hours I've put into this have been very enjoyable, but alas it pains me to say this but the DX driver crashes on this make it borderline unplayable. And being that this game is only aprox 4 months old and is still for sale on steam, this an issue that MUST be dealt with in one way shape or form, whether forceing the devs to patch the game or remove it from stock. With that said Mary Skelter: Nightmares as a game I still would recommend for fans of the genre, but advise playing on its original platform.. As it stands the game suffers too much from technical issues to really justify the purchase.
