Such a fun game. Improve your marketing Demimonde/Squeenix.. A great example of an indie game done right. Gameplay is simple yet very fun. There are not sudden difficulty spikes which many indies suffer from. Recommended if you enjoy challenging platformers.. This is one of those rare 10/10 games. The movement feels perfect. The visuals are very nice. The level design is good. The music is great. The mechanics are fun. If you like platformers at all, this is a must play.. OMG I JUST DANCED 10 MINUTES STRAIGHT!
THE PUMPING EDM MUSIC OF THE SECOND LEVEL IS TOO AWESOME!
CAAAAN'T STOOOOOP, WOOOON'T STOOOOOOP!
♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪ \(◕ヮ◕)/ ♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪
BEST DANCE MUSIC EVER IN A NON-RYTHM GAME!

SUCH POLISH, MUCH WOW!

You know you've got a polished game, when DS4 controller is supported and has its button symbols in the game.

I completed all levels and got all medals, also the plus variation of Time and Deus medal and I can say that many levels are pretty challenging. For me speedrunning the levels is the most fun. There are also some nice achievements where you need to not touch the floor or avoid all pickups or not get detected and such. For hardcore gamers there is even more challenging stuff after you complete the game. With this wide spectrum of challenges this game is not only a platformer but also a puzzle game, racing game, stealth game and all of its own.

<3. This is a really well-designed game. The levels are fantastic, the music slaps, and the mechanics are great. I would almost be willing to add it to the pantheon of truly great platformers. But to me, there's one thing that holds it back: dying sucks.

In a game like Super Meat Boy, dying is fine. You respawn instantly and you're ready to give it another go. Levels are small and ending up back at the start doesn't matter. You can die a million times on a level and just keep wanting to play more until you beat it.

In this game, dying is really annoying. Levels are long, and contain only a single checkpoint in the middle. It takes a long time to respawn. It takes a long time to redo what you've already done, and it's tedious as hell. Every time I've stopped playing this game, it's been because I died, lost a ton of progress, and didn't feel like doing the whole level over again. This may seem like a minor complaint, but if you're used to platformers that put you back in the fray instantly, you'll feel it.

Overall this game is still great. I'd definitely recommend it if you're into platformers.. Beautiful platformer with tight controls, a near-perfect difficulty ramp, and new mechanics introduced on almost every stage.
Each stage has optional collectables, that if all are collected, unlock challenge stages with little upgrades to your powers as reward.
For those so inclined, there are four medals for different goals for each stage, one for getting all the collectibles, and one for making it through without losing any lives.
The other two turn the game into a more strategic form; the third by challenging you to get through the stage while using as few platforms as possible, and the last one by getting all collectibles while also minimizing platform usage.
Most of the traps and enemies, as well as the platforms and objects that make up the stages themselves have mechanics that are rhythm-based and perfectly synced to the music (don't forget to set your audio offset in the settings to match your setup).
The soundtrack is fantastic, well worth picking up on its own if synthy beats are your kinda thing.. Octahedron is another Concept Platformer, and its concept is this: what if you could hit a button to spawn a platform under your feet? It pulls hours of great vertically-scrolling platforming from that premise with constantly inventive mechanics and level design. Levels are constantly introducing fun new elements like platforms that toggle solidity each time you spawn a platform, or enemies that try to jump you from below, pushing the platform you're on to the ceiling. Each level feels distinct and is built for replay, with medals available for beating a level with all collectibles, without dying, below a par time, and below par platform spawns. Reaching the end of Octahedron is within the grasp of any platformer fan, and the medals are a wonderful extra challenge for dedicated players. Meeting platform pars is especially fun, asking you to work out the most efficient paths through each level.

My biggest complaint with Octahedron has to do with the final challenge. The lead-up to the end is a lot of fun, handing you a power-up you've been wanting since the start of the game and giving you a gauntlet of fast-paced levels to use it. But the very last level changes up the formula for the worse. Without going into spoilers, I'll just say that while it's not too difficult, I believe it's too chaotic. It's just not as interesting as all the carefully-crafted level design up to that point. But while that's a disappointment to end on, it's a small part of the game.. I immediately fell for this game when I saw it. The fun, simple yet deep platforming mechanics, rich visual style, and fantastic music, all come toegther to make a platforming experience I've never had before. The use of environment objects and certain enemies in stages to add more "instruments" to the BGM is an amazinng touch. If you listen to the OST seperately you're actually not hearing all of the music.

Difficulty curve feels very fair and well-thought. Octahedron does a good job introducing you to new mechanics and obstacles in a naturalistic way, without having to spell out exactly how each one works.

Geat value for its price.

Octahedron update news:

While porting the game to the Switch (out on January 17!) Octahedron was moved to a new engine and has seen many code optimizations along the way. The Steam version has just been updated to version 1.2.4.4! Since the game's release in March 2018 there have been several updates, adding new features and improvements, as well as fixing bugs. The following is a summary of all the major things that have been added since launch (including the newest update):

(1.2.4.4)

  • upgraded engine from Game Maker Studio 1.4 to 2.0
  • new "HELP" option on level stat screen to explain medals, diamonds etc.
  • new "COPY FILE" menu
  • new "PERFORMANCE MODE" option: gives a further performance boost at a minimal visual cost, useful when playing on very weak CPU/GPU systems or when streaming the game
  • new options on completed save files: turn off optional upgrades and only play levels with the minimum required platform upgrade

(1.0.7.4)
  • option to display speedrunning timers added (global and per level)
  • added tracking and saving of best level times (visible on pause stat screen)

(1.0.6.1)
  • for higher difficulty levels there is now a "SKIP TUTORIAL LEVEL" option in the pause menu during the tutorial level
  • after a "Game Over" in Rogue or Rogue Extra mode there is now an option to "QUICK RESTART FROM LEVEL 1-1", so restarting the game with the intro and the tutorial level is no longer necessary

For more details and specific bug fixes, please refer to the pinned release notes in the Steam community discussions.
