It's just a mod for quake 3 but with teamwork. Playing Trials 2 is like going to a restaurant, and ordering the chili. First, you're impressed. It's pretty good! The meat is tender, the onions and beans are flavorful, the broth is robust. Then, the cook comes out and adds some Cayenne pepper, to give it just a little spice. Superb! Well done! And then the cook comes out again and adds some more Cayenne pepper. Well, I mean. why? It's quite good the way it is. You can still taste the other ingredients, and it's not bad, but things are kind of getting overwhelmed by the spice. And then the cook comes out once more and dumps a gallon if Cayenne pepper into your dish. Now you're irritated, but you know there's good chili in there, right? You take a bite, and try to ignore the spiciness, but even when you find a great big chunk of meat or something, all you can taste is spice. Spice, spice, spice. Difficulty is good in a game. A little spice is more than nice. But when your game's gimmick is that it gets so difficult that you can no longer taste the enjoyable stuff, well. what's the point? Who wants to eat THAT dish? A bad chef is one who sucks at chili. An unforgivable chef is one who ruins good chili. The same goes for game devs - good game, ruined because some idiot was all like "XTREEEEEEEM MEANS HARD, RIGHT?" I will not be purchasing any games by Red Lynx again.. You ever wonder what it would be like if they took a tablet game that made use of gesture controls and made it for the PC crowd and a mouse and keyboard? Wonder no more. It's decently well done, but GOD.I used to have a lot more freetime/disposable income back in the day.. The Maw is a short, fun, 3D platformer where you play as Frank. Frank is some weird alien creature that escapes a boring life or prison or whatever and comes into contact with the Maw, whom he is able to control. Together, Frank and the Maw fight through various levels as the Maw also eats different creatures, growing at various points. Enemies vary but it can feel repetitive. Then again, this game was designed for children and I'm 24. Anyway, it's been in my library for a long time and I figured I might as well play it having just finished a number of other longer games. 7.0/10. Like Quake III Arena, Team Arena is a great game rendered obsolete by the newer and still supported Quake Live. Quake Live is basically Quake III but easier to use and optimised to run on newer systems. And it's even $5 cheaper than the Quake III dual pack here. If you really want to get your frag on, get Quake Live.. I recommend using the Hammer of Thyrion source port for this game and it's expansion. HeXen II is an old-school dark fantasy FPS game from 1997, developed by Raven Software. This game is the last of the Serpent Riders trilogy, so you have already kicked the butts of D'Sparil and Korax in Heretic and Hexen respectively, only Eidolon remained. But to get to him, you need to kill his four "generals", the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Famine, Death, Pestilence, War). So basically there are four hubs with four distinct themes, where you have to solve - often cryptic - puzzles to get to the boss, kill it, then advance to the next hub. Four is a magic number here, because you can now select four different characters to play the game: the Paladin, the Crusader, the Necromancer and the Assassin. They all use different weapons, and they have different abilities. The gameplay is similar to Hexen, but now some RPG elements are introduced to the game, so by killing enemies you are gaining XP. Leveling up grants you more HP and Mana, and some special abilities too (for example the Paladin can swim underwater indefinitely without drowning). The difficulty is punishing and the puzzles are very challenging (often frustrating - the third hub can go F itself), so if you don't like "where-the-hell-should-I-go" kinda games, you won't like this one either. Otherwise it's a true classic worth playing. --------------- Expansion Pack An expansion pack released in 1998 called the Portal of Praevus, which isn't published by Id Software, so unfortunately not sold anywhere digitally. Nevertheless it adds a new hub with a new theme, new enemies and a fifth class, the Demoness. The story is about the evil wizard Praevus, who wants to resurrect the Serpent Riders, so - obviously - we cannot let him do that. If you liked the base game, you should definitely play the expansion, if you can somehow get your hands on a copy - the puzzles are much more straightforward, and the map design is cool too.. Beautiful but very short Hidden Object game in a steampunk setting.. Nice animations, the game includes a real story.. It would be cool if this was updated for VR. :-) But when I played it, it was fun, eye hand cordination for sure.. Episode 2 of the series builds on what made Episode 1 great (I have a review of that up). Battles have gotten harder and more frequent, the game is longer (taking me about seven hours to complete), I actually used the special moves, there are various puzzles this time, and, as expected, there were more laughs to be had. My only gripes with the game involve me getting stuck in more than a few places (not on the puzzles, mind you) and this final boss compared to Episode 1's. Most of the former can be solved simply by clicking on Gabe and/or Tycho, who give hints one where to go or what to do next.
