I dont feel the "Bullet Hell". Very simple game. Phoenix Force is equivalent to one of those old avoider-style Flash games where you just don't touch anything. You don't even get to control when to use your special. There's not a single decision to make. Calling it a shoot 'em up is generous. Go play one of the many superior shmups on Kongregate instead.. simple but very nice and challenging game. i recommend it.. A Challenging game made more so by the mechanics that force a rigid gameplay. The inability to store a useful special, like shield for example, to use when you need it makes it hard to rely on anything other than personal skill. Also the constant firing can cause you to shoot an enemy you don't wish to injure just yet. This can make the 3 group and 4 group bosses much more difficult. Other than those issues the game plays fairly well. A lot of extra padding with the way challenge mode works but nothing too awful that its unbearable. A good pick for people who prefer hard games.. Brief: Score: 72/100. A good SHOOT EM UP thats definitely worth playing. Phoenix Force is mostly about patience and avoiding damage. The main gun is auto fire, so as long as you avoid damage you will eventually kill the enemy. The more skillful players, who can memorize the bullet patterns, will be able to take down enemies by being more aggressive and jumping into the bullet hell more often. Again, patience is the most power skill since one hit means death. The enemies are basically all bosses. You meet a new boss in one level, then you face off against the new boss and a combination of the other bosses in later levels. The game is a nice grind, since there are about 100 levels. The graphics are passable. Dont expect to see amazing effects that you might run into in the top games in the genre. Still, for the price, its a very good experience. In fact, if you can pick it up during a sale, it probably is a must buy if you care about bang for the buck purchases.. Is really good, after beating south america im on Mexico now is more difficult im at lvl 23 This game keep the shoot'em up alive, if you like 1942 (90's game) by capcom you will love this game worth the money 10/10. In short: Is this for hardcore bullet hell shmup fans? No. Is this a mediocre shmup that's worth $1, and you won't feel bad when you never return to it? Yes. This isn't an exceptional shmup, but it will give you a few decent hours for your purchase. Each "stage" is just a single encounter, at first against a single boss-like enemy. Soon you're taking on four strong enemies at once, and their patterns occasionally change. Enemy health scales down when there are more enemies on screen, so it's the 1:1 battles that feel the most dramatic. In the encounters with multiple enemies, you can sometimes kill one before they even get to their most difficult attacks. The winning strategy is to focus on the one enemy with the attack that causes you the most grief. That's the entirety of the game. At the end of each encounter, you earn some kind of spendable currency and occasionally a relic that improves player stats. You spend the currency on a purchasable 'level up' between stages; this is pretty silly because you can just forget to do it occasionally. I'm not entirely sure it matters, as none of these upgrades really felt like they made any kind of significant change to the game. It felt like the game just constantly scaled up enemy health to match my new abilities. The game provides six playable characters. I only bothered unlocking the first five, as the last requires you to clear 100 separate encounters that don't progress the game. Only one of the characters is worth playing because it does the most damage. The other characters are weaker and have slightly different firing patterns and different secondary abilities. I never found a scenario where any of the other characters were more useful. I know none of this sound particularly praiseworthy, so why am I recommending it? Despite all these faults, it's an alright game and doesn't seem to have any major bugs. I paid $1 for it, and I got four hours of decent play from it. I think that's a fair trade. Don't hesitate to throw in the towel once it stops being fun; I put at least 20 minutes into Stage 85, and after quitting, I'm certain I won't be back. That's a shame, I'm genuinely curious what the last phoenix is like. I guess there's a sequel.. Got this game free.. Phoenix Force is a shoot 'em up game. You play as a Phoenix against other mythological creatures. It's somehow ain't a bad game but also not that good. The graphics is good. The animations are great. The art works are damn awesome The soundtrack is good. The Sound FX are way to awesome I must say. I loved to play with the Tupa the lightning Phoenix just because the sound of thunder. The gameplay is the problem. It's not so bad but could be better. Your Phoenix gonna follow the cursor not be the cursor which make it feel like lagging and sometimes ruin you whole movement plan. You gonna get used to it after a while but you will still get that laggy feeling. There are one hundred levels and one hundred challenge more to unlock Lich which is the last Phoenix. You unlock Challenge mode by beating level fifty-four. You got six Phoenix to choose from Fury, Cryo, Tupa, Gala, Gast and Lich. All of 'em are unlockable through the game. All of the Levels or the Challenges are based on the same pattern. You against one or more other creature. There ain't any small enemies just bosses. It's sure is challenging since that you can die from only one hit. It might get boring since the levels doesn't feels different but the bosses gets faster and stronger. You can upgrade your level but if you reached level with six, seven or more digits for an example level 1,000,000 you will see hell on earth. Not kidding lol if you play in fullscreen the game crashes and would turn all white. Nothing can save you at that point not even command prompt can save you. There are only options for the Music and Sound FX volume, Vibration and to toggle the fullscreen. It kinda sucks tho You get three card drops of five cards badge. There are nine achievements. But five dollars I think it's a little bit high. If you are interested in reading and discussing reviews. Check Cassus.org
