Sally's Law is a sidescrolling puzzle-platformer from Korean indie developer Nanali Studios. And it's a good one.

This game tackles theme as old as time itself - struggle between different generations, relationships of parents and children, a conflict between passion of the young and caution of the elder. We are being told the story of Sally, a girl, brought up by single father, loving, but very protective of her. The plot unfolds as Sally journeys back to the home she left a long time ago pursuing her dreams. And during this trip she reminisces about her father, how she used to resent him for not being there for her in the past. But little by little Sally is starting to realize that her dad did his best to help her and support her, even when she didn't notice it. All the obstacles she overcame with such ease, all the pitfalls she avoided - he always been there, carrying her through thick and thin.

Gameplay is a simple but solid puzzle-platformer, which doesn't open new horizons or revolutionizes the industry but does enough to differentiate itself from hordes of other platformers and to keep gaming process compelling. The brilliant thing about it is that gameplay mechanics are inseparably intertwined with storytelling and the big theme of this game. Playing as Sally you are rushing towards the end of the level, towards the future, whatever it brings. Playing as her dad, you watch over your girl, clearing obstacle on her way and helping her to get to her goal. This approach enhances the storytelling aspect immensely, allowing you to experience the message on both intellectual and emotional level.

The game is rather short and I would not describe it as challenging in any way, not that it's a bad thing. Sally's Law offers solid two hours of game time full of puzzles that are just hard enough to make your cogs spin but neither of them will take you more than a minute to figure out. Same goes for platforming - it's relaxingly smooth and moderately easy. This game doesn't strive to be Braid or Meatboy, it's a game which knows what it is, knows what it set out to do and does it quite well.

Animation takes after a certain plain but compelling style and music fits the general mood of the game, organically adding to the experience. As for the te♥♥♥♥♥al part - controls are very simple and rebindable, basic graphical options, such as resolution, can be tuned in the menu and english translation seems alright. I noticed a few odd phrases, but then again, I'm not a native speaker myself, so that might have been a mistake on my part. The game runs smoothly on my fairly old PC, providing a good 60FPS performance you would expect from such a title. A couple of minor fps drops or hitches occured during my playthrough, but they are barely worth mentioning and didn't impact my experience in any way.

There is a few things that in my opinion could been done better. Spawn animations and pauses at the start of each stage are unnecessary and disrupt the pace of the game. A one key bind to restart current stage would be helpful as well as ability to restart the whole level without going back to the main menu. The way the story is told requires you to shift focus from the gameplay to read text or risk missing a piece of the plot. Still, these are very minor issues that don't take away from the general experience.

Sally's Law is a beautiful and bittersweet story about love and caring and forgiveness. If you're up for two hours of enjoyable platforming, puzzlesolving and sweet heartache, this game is for you.. Hra má šťastný a smutný dej, mam pocit že ten smutný dej prevláda, príbeh je o otcovi a dcére ktorý si dávajú pomaličky každým kotulom zbohom, určite sa pri hraní človek zamyslí nad týmy ktorých má rád a ktorých by nikdy nechcel stratiť,,hratelnost ľahká úroveň žiadna, jedna sa tu o level, grafika postačujúca, hru hodnotím kladne :)🕯️. Nice lil game.
A flaw I noticed is that it has absolutely no mouse support - you have to do everything with your keyboard, including going into Settings.
But this isn't a big issue, since your keys are four: left and right to move, shift to (make the secondary character) sprint, space to jump.
And Enter to start..
The atmosphere is relaxed and soothing, and so is the music (even though it can be repetitive if you're going to 100% this).
There's sort of a tale in the tale :)
It's impossible to talk about the plot, 'cos it would be a spoiler since the first chapter.. so, into the game, you play with two balls that are Sally and his father. They can perform the tasks written before and must work together to proceed into the game - I know that if you've been into Flash platformer/puzzle games this concept won't sound new to you but trust me, it's really worth it!
You basically have to go through all the puzzles together, controlling the two spheres, and the story is really nice and lovely (although many reviewers said that this game made them call the father of their, this isn't my case but maybe I'm just too cold and dead inside).. plus, since the father can only go left and right and the daughter can only jump there's the need of some thinking.
Anyhow, if you take this just as a game, it's easy. But as with all the Flash puzzle/platformers in which a relationship is involved between the two characters, here too (and here this part is greatly developed) you need to pay attention more to the story than to the game itself (which still is a game, you can die, it's not a visual novel). Later in the game, as I was saying timing gets important in order to make the two characters cooperate but overall it never gets "difficult".
If you like these kind of games, play some of them on Kongregate ok, but play this one too :). Nice little Indie game, I like the story and the jumping puzzles are pretty good.. Great puzzle-platformer with an interesting story!. This is a fairly basic puzzle platformer, but you're here because this is one of those "games as art" games. The story intertwined with the mechanics weave an emotional tale. Definitely worth the hour or two it lasted.. This is a beautiful, casual game I just purchased, about a father and daughter at odds who eventually reunite after quite a few years apart.

The art is well done, and the music is soothing. Basically you play as Sally who, after dreaming of being a writer, runs off to the city leaving her father behind. There aren't any enemies per se, but you can fall to your "death," and unopened columns and un-trampled spikes/bushes can harm Sally; causing you to start part of the level over. There are only 3 sets of keys to remember, space bar so Sally can jump, the directional keys so the father can move, and the left shift key to speed Sally up when playing as the father. As far as I can tell, there's no need for the mouse in any part of this game.

The biggest difficulty in this game comes with obtaining all the memorial pictures, as well as the last couple of levels. I've spent most of my play time attempting to finish the last couple of levels, while at the same time getting the memorial photos. For me, there is only one minor negative, and it's that you don't keep a memorial photo if you fail that specific part of the level. Which is somewhat understandable. That being said, I guess the music can become a bit irritating if you're spending a lot of time repeating the same sections over and over. One other thing, timing is quite important in some parts of this game. It almost requires you to think ahead, since the father can only "jump" by bouncing off of Sally. And to clarify, you first play the level as Sally, then after a couple of sections you play as the father with Sally taking the exact same route you took to complete the level just before.

So yes I would recommend this game, but it is rather short. So if that bothers you, wait for it to go on sale again. As I was able to pick this game up for $1.99, and I don't regret it in the least.

P.S. No need to worry about being stuck in this game, the level restarts after several seconds of no movement.

P.P.S. I nominated this game because I found it fairly addicting, and really just wanted to keep playing until I reached the end. Since I've finished it I'm going back for the rest of the memorial photos I missed.. I normally prefer easier games to relax after stressful office day. Yet this game was so easy and boring that it even annoyed me. I completed the game in 90 minutes, it felt like 9 hours. The story is the most repetitive story I had ever encountered. Imagine that you have to write an essay that is 1000 words long and you could only come up with 100 words so you repeat yourself with different sentences but actually the same meaning over and over until you reach the 1000 words. Story in Sally's Law is just like that.

Gameplay is also nothing special. You play as Sally first. Sally moves by herself and all you need to do is jump when you need to reach higher ground. After playing with Sally you repeat the same level by playing as the father. As father your job is to remove the obstacles that would otherwise block Sally's path.

Playing as Sally in the first part makes half of the game extremely easy and boring. Father part starts easy and gets just a little hard each level, but it is still easy in the end. The father part (removing obstacles from your daughter's path) was actually a good idea but they failed at the execution. It would have been a good game if we had played only as the father(or Sally part affected father's gameplay a lot more than it currently does) and if it had a better story than repeating "I left home" and "She decided to leave" 10 times each.. Ok.
I am not sure why there isn't/wasn't alot of press out about this game.
It may look like a cute simple platformer but it is much more deep than it is given credit for.
I have fully enjoyed my time with this game. At points almost breaking into tears.
At other points excited by the challenging game play.
It is fun and short game with such a good story behind it.
The best part is you won't be breaking the bank buying it.. Because of my hectic workhours, I didn't speak to my dad in a month.

But after I finished 3/4 of this game, I grabbed my phone and called my dad and talked for a couple hours.

Thank you, Nanali Studios :')
