Soy and its Impact on Reproductive Health

Soy products are the most essential, natural, and dietary source of the organic compound isoflavone, which is an important element in phytoestrogens. Scientists have a budding interest considering the potential medical threats and benefits that are posed by endocrine disrupting chemicals to the human body. The consumption of phytoestrogen supplements, which are contained in soy products, has been often associated with valuable health effects on the reproduction, fertility, and development systems. Soy products have also been known to have an adverse effect on the fertility of some living organisms.
Isoflavone supplements have been widely popularized as alternative supplements to estrogen replacement treatment in women. Researchers have found that the supplement treatment results in a very significant decrease in the receptive behavior of progesterone and estrogen primed females. The pragmatic disruption of sexual receptiveness by the supplements can be attributed to the antiestrogenic effects the hormone has on the brain. Since soy products are the main natural sources of this compound in diets as well as in treatments, studies have shown that isoflavone phytoestrogens are antiestrogenic and influence important gene expressions in estrogen-dependent behavior of the female reproductive system. Irreversible changes in the structure of the brain and impaired reproductive performance can be caused by the phytoestrogens found in soy. This hormone impacts the sex-connected structures in the hypothalamus — part of the brain, which is important for regulating of the ovulation process and puberty.
Phytoestrogens are the distinctive isoflavones compounds that are present in most soy products such as beans and milk. Phytoestrogens provided in soy moderate the estrogen levels in the body, leading to an increase of the estrogen levels, when it is unnecessarily low, and lowering it, when it is high. The effects of moderating sequence in the body serve to promote significantly different features of the reproductive health system, lowering the risk of getting prostate cancer in men and eliminating symptoms of menopause in women.
The health benefits of soy based products on the menopausal symptoms are perhaps the most widely popular medical reason of including soy in the diet. Women consuming a substantial amount of soy experience less intense hot flashes and sweating during menopause than women who do not include soy products in their meals. There has also been speculation that the phytoestrogens in soy food, particularly genistein, may have negative effects on the fertility of women. Research has shown that soy based products have indeed some consequences on the female body. It is important for women to reduce significantly their intake of soy products at least six months before they want to improve their fertility rate.
Fertility is affected because in the course of evolution, plants have characteristically and naturally developed a variety of defensive mechanisms to prevent them from being consumed. Soy plants have developed a population control mechanism that protects them, acting as a form of "oral contraceptive." Phytoestrogens contained in soy interact with mammalian hormones that in turn control reproductive function and growth of the organism subsequently reducing their rate of fertility.
Soy related products such as milk and beans have been known as well as perceived to have some positive and negative effects on the reproductive systems of living organisms, both plants and animals, particularly humans. Compounds contained in soy decrease the receptive sexual behavior of females, who use this product as a supplement in hormonal treatment. Soy has also been known to reduce the risk of medical complications such as prostate cancer and menopause. Additionally, these products affect fertility of women and should be avoided before conception.
