This is high adventure! The action just keeps going and we get many awesome set pieces of action and adventure. And I loved every one of them.
I loved the new characters and the returning characters.
There are several choices in the movie that sound bad on paper but actually really work in the context of the movie.
One of those is bringing back someone who died in the 1983 movie, but whose voice we heard in the trailers, and they definitely pulled elements from 90's Dark Horse comics to pull that off and it was amazing.
But I went with my stepfather who didn't see TLJ and hasn't seen TFA since 2015 and may or may not have seen any of the rest since they hit theaters. And he was able to follow along with the movie just fine. And afterwards remarked that he didn't need to see the rest to feel caught up.
So if you are in the mood to have a good time, there is plenty to love no matter how deep into the lore your knowledge goes.
