History

The word still life is of Spanish origin and refers to the painting of food and kitchen objects. In other countries, this type of painting is called still life. Features of still life paintings

• In these paintings there are no mythological, religious, warlike or customary scenes, in reality there are no scenes of any kind. Nor is it possible to discover landscapes or portrayed characters here.
• The still life shows an interior, either of a room or of a kitchen or on a table there are a series of inert natural elements such as fruits, vegetables and fish. You can also see kitchen utensils such as plates, jugs, cutlery, bowls, glasses, etc.
• For a long time, still life was considered a minor type, secondary to the great pictorial types.
