Kenshi is a great example of how a game, even if stuck in development for many years, can be an amazing game that delivers on its premise AND delivers on the "fun" factor of a game. Vantage: Primitive Survival, on the other hand. is not. It simply was not fun for me to play it despite enjoying the premise that it is built on, it felt tedious and the interaction controls with items as well as the grind required made me think of Wurm Unlimited/Online, which sadly in this case is not a compliment. The way the gameplay has been designed and engineered just does not create fun for me, I would have far more fun booting up Stranded 2 than playing this game. So no. I do not recommend it, and I don't care that it's Early Access either. You can't bug fix a bad game flow design, but I genuinely wish you the best of luck and give my best hopes that you make it through Early Access and release an amazing product, Crystal Dragon. EDIT: I would like to emphasize quickly that, my comparison of this game to Kenshi is not meant to be 1:1. I am only contrasting the fact that both have been in development for a long time, and I am not measuring mechanics and genre between the two because that would be silly, both have different goals. It is only to emphasize the point of, "One delivers on a fun game flow and gameplay design, and one does not".. not playable, should not have been released yet. What a waste of time and gaming effort. Starting tools do not last through the first craft so you are stuck with no tools and no item and no way to make a new tool. try to build a fire with your starting items and your item (most likely the stick) will wear out before you get a fire so you have to make a new one which uses up your sharpened stone knife, Funny how a small wooden rod just destroys a piece of stone. s there you are you finally get a fire built but you had to use up your sharpened stone and alas there is no way on this planet to get another, or even find a piece of broken rock with a sharp edge. There is an elusive, mysterious and magical item in the game called a billet that is needed to make any sharpened stone or bone tool, problem is you cannot find one. it is probably crafted in a forge of some type so forget about crafting one folks. Would figure the designer would have at least made it possible to keep playing but after over an hour of looking for one I gave up.. Yes the game is a grind, as many RPG's are. However the complexity of the grinding and using the various skills and improving them afterward is an ongoing reward for the work. Where I think this game differs from most RPG's even at this early stage is in the depth of the skill/craft progression, an attribute the developer shows every sign of continuing. It takes many hours of working on wood, stone, bone, hide, brushworking skills to rightfully feel I've earnt the crafts that are available already and I'm very much looking forward to seeing where he takes the game further. Hunting and fishing skills improve with use, "Yahoo, I can one shot a wolf with a sling now", and it feels satisfying to know that I can now make a fire in one try nearly every time, its not so easy at first. Add to that a very large world to explore. In short this is very good, relaxed and varied "grind" with appropriate rewards thats already good for an enjoyable few days play. The developer listens, is very dedicated and I am very sure this game will only get better.. Overall great game and great graphics for a indie but one thing the dev. needs to add is thrird person camera.


Early Access Update 1.0.1 is Live! : This patch allows you to build a new item, a "primitive wooden table" to display your wares. You can also have the option to reset your world and start anew from your server program! As well as many other additions and bug fixes.. Play as Cavewoman or Caveman! : New and updated player models are looking good! You will be able to play a cavewoman as well as a caveman! They will be part of the final overhaul update for pre-Early Access which is currently underway!. Vantage Patch Early Access 1.0.0 is Live! : I have uploaded the "hopefully" final launch version of Vantage for tomorrow! I have had no issues with testing on my end.. Year End Summary and Road Map for Next Year! : So I thought I would post a little bit about the before and after of the current game's development for those who are interested! Year End Wrap-up:. Vantage Pre-EA 0.5.4 is released! Launch Date Very Soon! : Vantage Pre-Ea 0.5.4 is released! This has added the first songs of the game's soundtrack into the game! Also some final bug fixes. This version marks the first of the "Final" updates for the game. I will hopefully be announcing a release date very soon! I will also post a sample of the new game music soon.. Vantage Early Access Update 1.0.8 is Live! : This updates is a whole bunch of fixes and optimizations, including smarter AI for animals! Watch out! They know when they're cornered now :) Patch notes:. Part 1 of the Game Play Overhaul is Complete! : Finally part 1 of 2 of my exhaustive game play testing and overhaul is complete! Every time I go though all of my crafts, skills and items in the game I realize how much content I have in the game to actually test! It is a quite a lot of effort to go through everything and make sure everything is working, is balanced, and is fun! This part of the overhaul was actually game play testing all of the mechanics in the game. Part 2 is implementing the large list of optimizations and content that was created while doing all of the game play testing. I have many items on this list, where completing them could take anywhere from a few minutes, to a few days for each item. However, the silver lining in all of this is basically once this is done, the game will be completely ready for Early Access Release! I will of course be opening up the game for one more round of beta testers to play the game before I release it.. Vantage Early Access Update 1.1.3 is Live! : This update mainly focuses on fire making enhancements and bug fixing, and fixes a few issues with item timers which appeared after the item timer overhaul last update.. Update EA 1.2.1 is Live! : This update adds a few quality of life enhancements, tweaks, and fixes for the new content that was recently released "Hearth and Home". I am charging through my development list quite quickly and it feels good! The "Hearth and Home" content update seems to have gone very smoothly and everything looks good! I am really looking forward to the next iterations of content and optimizations.
