The Wargame series is a realistic (ish) tabletop wargame made into a nice computer game, set in a series of fictional events all designed to have the player wage war during the Cold War.

There is no single player save for the campaign, but since the campaign is pretty awesome to play I'm giving this game a thumbs up. Although the only aircraft players can get are helis, the simplistic interface of the game and helpful tooltips that appear whenever a player's mouse hovers over a unit (oh so helpful; since I'm an uneducated Cold War techie, it is so helpful to know that the ZT76 is a Main Battle Tank; I wish this feature was kept in sequel games) make this game alot of fun. The army building mechanic is underdeveloped by comparison to the sequel games but, hey, this game's charming simplicity sells itself pretty well.
