What are the Safety Measures that OSHA Recommends for Window Cleaning Gondola Users?

Only in the U.S, hundreds of fatalities occur every year due to incorrect scaffolding use. Most of these are hazards that are related to personal ignorance, or sheer carelessness or lack of taking proper safety measures. The OSHA has recommended various safety measures that employers and workers must follow before work commences on a building gondola for painting and renovation of buildings, construction, cleaning, maintenance and other purposes. Find out about a few of them.

Wearing proper safety gear

Workers need to put on harnesses and also dress up in a proper way, such as wearing anti-slip boots, which can allow them to stand safely on the platforms. If they work in a corrosive environment, they have to be dressed up suitably to prevent the effects of corrosive materials on their skin, eyes and the body. They need to put on corrosion-resistant shoes and clothes that have a soft bottom, and it has to be resistant to corrosion as well. Long pants and long-sleeved working jacket should be worn along with a helmet.

Use of proper accessories

It is not enough to wear proper safety clothing, given that hoister, fittings, fasteners, etc have to be put on as well. These accessories can resist and minimize the risks of falls for users from a building cradle.

Keeping an OSHA trained personnel on-site

Employers are also recommended to keep personnel on window cleaning site, preferably trained in OSHA practices, so as to inform workers about the same and help them in following all those practices while on a window cleaning platform.
