Use of non-human primates in biometrical researches

Every year over 11 million animals are used in biometrical researches mainly monkeys and apes. Because according to biology monkeys and apes are those animals which have genetic similarities to humans. This similarity makes them most suitable candidates for testing new medicines and drugs which are made by scientists for different diseases. This use of animals is increasing day by day. And this increment is raising a lot of ethical questions also.
We can never imagine that these animals suffer from how much pain to make humans life better. Laboratories have made animals suffer in all conditions. First of all they live like a prisoner, without any control on their life. They don’t know what they will eat, when they will eat. Will they have any mate or children? The only thing they do is to live in a small closet, eat what they get to eat. If they are hungry they cannot even ask for food before time. After these prisons laboratories starts their cruelty. Monkeys are drugs addicted because the testers give them a huge amount of drugs to test them for humans. They made cats intentionally blind to research how to overcome the blindness. Not only this. Rats are used to made tumors in their body. These tumors are as large as their body is. Just to research that how can we fight with a tumor? Grotesque devices are implanted in rabbit’s bodies. Dogs are poisoned to test the drugs weather these are suitable for human or not. Not only this. After all these cruel and dreadful procedures, animals are thrown back to their closets without giving them any pain killer or any healing medicines.
Have you ever watched any video footage from inside laboratories? How these animals fear when anyone pass through their cage? They just get scared because they don’t know when they will be pulled out for any injection, blood test or any painful process.
Is that humanity? We cut these animals; we make them suffer just because we want to secure ourselves. This is not humanity. We cannot feel that pain from which they go. Just imagine how tiny body a rat has. And how can it suffer such big tumor. It is cruelty.
Many campaigns raised voice for animal’s rights to stop cruelty. Just like British started a campaign in 2003 named “SPEAK – the voice of the animals”. Its aim was to end animal experiments in United Kingdom. It fought against two big projects. The first was to stop non-human primate research facility in Cambridge University. It was abandoned in 2004 year. Currently its new target is animal testing center at University of Oxford.
