How to Update the Drivers for a Display Connected to Windows 10 PC

Updates are useful, sometimes they fix issues and sometimes boost the performance. If you’re connecting a second display to your computer, but Windows does not recognize it even when the connection, cables, and everything is correct, then possibly the trouble is in the drivers. A buggy, corrupted, or outdated driver can prevent the PC from recognizing your second monitor. This issue can be resolved easily by updating or reinstalling the installed drivers. Updating the drivers will not only recognize your second monitor but also fix other problems with displays. Here is how to update the drivers for a display connected to Windows 10 PC.

You can install the driver’s update from the Device Manager as well as from the manufacturer control panel.

How to update the graphics drivers on Windows 10 from Device Manager

It is the most natural way of updating the drivers in Microsoft Windows 10. Follow the steps given here to update the drivers on your PC.

1.    Bring up the ‘Start’ menu.

2.    Type “device manager.”

3.    Select the top result and press enter or just click on it. Device Manager Window will come up on the screen.

4.     Now, find the ‘Display adapters’ in the left options and double click it to expand. You will see the monitor connected to your PC in the expanded menu.

5.    Right click on display (adapter) and click the first option ‘Update Driver.’

6.    Then, click on ‘Search automatically for updated driver software’ on the next screen. You can select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ to install the drivers stored in your PC or from a CD.

7.    Wait and restart your computer, when prompted.

Windows will automatically search, download, and install the latest driver, if available. Once you update the drivers, it will resolve most of the issues you’re meeting with your monitor(s).

How to update the graphics drivers from the manufacturer control panel

However, the Windows Update is the simplest way to update the graphics driver, but it’s not necessary they are most recent. If you want to install the most recent versions of the drivers for your video card, then you’ll find them on the manufacturer (Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD) website. Here is how.

1.    Make sure your Windows 10 PC has an internet connection.

2.    Use a web browser to visit the control panel of your video card.

For Intel, visit https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers ;.

For NVIDIA, visit https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.

For AMD, visit https://www.amd.com/en/support.

3.    When you’re on the page, click the ‘Download or Download Now’ button. Before this, you have to select the version.

4.    After downloading the driver’s installer file, double click it to run and install.

5.    Then, follow the screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once the graphics driver update, it will resolve most of the issues you’re meeting with your monitor(s).

1.    Bring up the ‘Start’ menu.

2.    Type “system information.”

3.    Select the top result and press enter or just click on it. System Information Window will come up on the screen.

4.    Now, look for ‘Components’ in the left options and double click it to expand.

5.    Then click on ‘Display.’

Here is your graphics card model next to Adapter Type and Driver Version.
