A choose-your-own-adventure where about 50% of your choices result in gruesome graphical death.
Includes besides classic fantasy fare Aliens, cyborgs, murderous librarians, Freddy Kruger and SpongeBob.

Takes about 2 hours for first run, enjoying it more if you try to find the many ridicilous ways for the Hero to die. Around 30m more for all endings. 4.4 hours for 100% completion using a guide in the end, finding last screens gets repetitive).

Pro's:
*Choices, lots of 'em
*A LOT of (gruesome) art
*Music is pretty good, even if just 4 tracks (menu, exploring, fighting, dying)
*Many paths through the castle (though starting to lack a bit in the end *cough* Succubus *cough*)
*Castle Layout map

Cons:
*English translation isn't too geat.
*Layout map cant be accessed mid-game (long loading :/)
*Gets repetitive getting near 100% (probably should have added +1 life per ending (up to 6) to help facilitate death-farming without excessive restarting)
*If you cant handle gore, this is not the game for you.. Since I cant play the game because it starts up and fills the screen with only a quarter of the whole screen I cant leave postive feedback. Its not my system. I don't have problems with any other games in my library and I keep drivers updated.. A good game to play if you just want to relax at night and not play some of the more tasking games.

The story and artwork is good.. I picked up this game on a whim and I'm glad I did. It's a choose your own adventure graphic novel that provides an entertaining story. I have about 5 hours invested in the game, which was enough to find the three endings and unlock all but the three completionist achievements.

Positives:
Excellent artwork.
A few surprising and entertaining twists in the story.
Multiple ways to solve many scenes.
Many entertaining ways to die.
The obvious choice isn't always the right one.

Drawbacks:
A few translation errors here and there.
One death was reused, albeit with different art.

Overall, I enjoyed the game. I wish it were longer and am eagerly looking forward to any subsequent games in the series.. TL;DR: THIS GAME IS BAD, AND YOU SHOULD PROBABLY BUY IT.

If the game designers has made Swordbreaker as a movie, I suspect that it might have attained a very minor cult status in the vast pantheon of 80s-inspired shlock fantasy drivel. I don't mean that in the "hidden-gem" kind of way, I mean it in the "get drunk, munch on whatever's left in the back of the fridge, and fall asleep about two-thirds in" kind of way. It would have been a few tiers below a Krull or a Conan, but not fallen so far down into the muck as to be outright boring. The art screens, at the very least, deserved better than the plot and the design.

So, there's a few things you should know going in ...

Accept that your choices are nearly arbitrary, and that the most consistant logic to them is the audibly giggling writer screwing over his players. Accept that the story that could only really please a hyperactive six-year old boy who'd taken a testosterone shot to the face, and that it's been brought to you in quasi-adequete fan translation. Accept that you may never learn what, exactly, a Swordbreaker Attack is, or how our manly-man hero learned to perform one, or why it can work so well on creatures without swords or even opposable thumbs. Maybe it's in the all-Russian intro video? I don't want to go check.

Accept all that, and note that the game is only three bucks ... unless you want the totally worth is Delux Edition!!! (I'm joking, don't do that.) Buy it, and waste an hour or so getting lost in some really enjoyable absurdity. You'll soon learn to hate the death scene music that always plays half a second before the story text loads.. Haha, a very funny visual novel. The game offers an interactive story in which the player has the opportunity to influence the story through versatile decisions. The death scenes are very funny, because with wrong decisions the hero loses one of three lives. And when all lives are used up, then you have to start over. So you have to memorize the scenes and decisions a bit. Very cool for the price.
