Starting from the childhood, every person desperately waits for his or her birthday party. When one hears the phrase 'birthday party', he or she recollects bright and colorful balloons, presents, happy smiles of native people, and greetings. These particular expectations of something great are extremely unbearable when one is 6 or 12. However, when a person is going to be 21, it becomes a truly thrilling and exciting occasion. I remember being extremely emotional while organizing my birthday party, inviting guests, and expecting magical atmosphere and nice gifts. I believe that 21 years is some kind of a border in human life – a person is no more a child, but he or she still stands on the threshold of unknown. It should be noted that this expectation of unknown future greatly frightened me, but I was still convinced that something great was coming. Therefore, my 21st birthday party was a breathtaking and emotional moment in my life that marked a significant age.
To start with, an ideal birthday party has to be shared with native people and close friends. I cannot state that huge overcrowded parties scare me, but I am definitely not the type of person that enjoys large festivities. Thus, my aim was to collect all important people for one place at one time. Unfortunately, this task was not easy, because a lot of my friends were studying in other cities. In order to be present at my birthday party, they would have to postpone their own plans. Although I attempted to invite all my close friends to the party, my best friend could not come. Even though I understood that studying at the medical university should be pretty challenging and the medical students probably lack time, but I was still greatly disappointed. From that moment, everything was not as I had planned, because my ideal birthday party risked being not so perfect. Nevertheless, 21 only happens once in a lifetime, and, thus, I have decided to keep a stiff upper lip no matter what challenges I may face.
Moreover, a perfect birthday party cannot be magical without a proper place as well as nice and stylish decorations. I decided to organize my birthday party at my parents’ lake house. This idea came to my mind, because the lake house was a very special place – I used to spend much time with my old friends there during vacations and summer holidays. At the same time, I wanted to show my new acquaintances the part of my life they were not familiar with, and such overfilled with memories place was the ideal option. While the place was chosen without hesitations, a decorating method remained a harder task. To be honest, I spent a couple of weeks choosing decorations for my birthday party. It was a pretty complicated task, because I did not want to seem childish by choosing too many balloons and confetti, but at the same time, plain and dull colors would make my special holiday boring. Therefore, the decorations at my birthday party tended to be very minimalistic, but at the same time quite meaningful. They consisted of the balloons of neutral colors with attached photos, massive candles, baskets of candies and fruit, and the variety of confetti on the floor, which created the atmosphere of celebration.
At the same time, a nice birthday party should be characterized by tasty and delicious food. In fact, I was not concerned with this part in the process of preparation for my dream party. My mother is an extremely good cook – she was ready to prepare anything my heart desired. I remember that as a child, I could not stand carrots, and my mother was forced to apply certain tricks to make me eat them. Until now, I cannot discover her secret, which makes me very proud to have such mother. In addition, one friend of our family owns a cozy restaurant in the neighborhood, and he has agreed with great pleasure to help me with serving at my party. Nevertheless, birthday cake was the one thing I really worried about. I wanted a birthday cake with my baby photograph on it, and that idea was hard to perform. Although my mother had found a wonderful baker who took our order, I still was nervous about my birthday cake. Thus, I believed that every detail should be perfect, because if something was wrong, the whole party would be a nightmare.
In addition, a really good birthday party requires truly interesting and funny entertainments. As a big fan of different games, I brought various board games, Twister, Sony PlayStation, and video camera to record our fun. My friends and I are also fond of charades, and, thus, I expected that we would like to recall our holidays at the lake house and play this game. At the same time, I organized the sound in such way that music could be heard from all parts of the house in order to create fun atmosphere. Thus, the days of hard work paid off – everything was perfect and ready. Nevertheless, it was my great mistake to rush into thinking that every detail was perfect.
Although everything was ready for my ideal 21st birthday party, the nature and particular weather conditions were not aware of my plans to celebrate this special day. Most of my friends' flights were canceled due to heavy fog, and those who lived nearby also had problems with getting out of town. As time was passing by, I sat alone in the decorated living room listening to the art house music and though that it was the worse day in my entire life. I became so angry that I was ready to crush and break everything around – decorations, food, drinks, games, and candles. I tried so hard to make everything excellent that it played a cruel joke with me. There was no point in the celebration of my birthday without people close to me, because without them it could never be ideal. Fortunately, I heard the sound of brakes, and loud voices approached the front door. When I opened the door, I saw plenty of my friends all smiling and greeting me. I am confident that I will remember that moment forever, because it was extremely enlightening for me. Any party or event will not be ideal without my native people and close friends. Additionally, life should not be ideal. I understood that the most important thing in life is the presence of others in it.
At the same time, for some people, the presence of close friends at a party or other event can be not so essential. Certainly, weather conditions or absence of someone cannot change the fact that a person has a birthday party. Thereby, some may state that while the party is the time for fun, one should not pay attention to different improprieties that violate his or her right to celebrate. However, I cannot agree with such an idea, because for me birthday is an occasion to see people who live far away and share with them my happiness or, perhaps, concerns. I am certain that sometimes I may not demonstrate enough appreciation towards them, but I am truly thankful to have them and to be their friend. Therefore, this particular experience helped me understand that my friends are an essential part of my life, and without them all the parties in the world would be senseless.
Moreover, to some people, such desperate desire to make everything ideal may seem abnormal. Nonetheless, turning 21 is an important phase in everyone's life, because it is the point when a person should know what he or she wants from life. While choosing landmarks in my life, I wanted to share my holiday as well as desires and experiences with my close friends. I understood that each of my friends had his or her own fate, and it is possible that our paths will not cross so often any more. Thus, I attempted to gather all my native people and celebrate my 21st birthday with them. Despite the fact that my birthday party was not ideal, I was not alone that day, because my friends still managed to come and enjoy my holiday. Although my 21st birthday party was both breathtaking and emotional, it marked a significant age and helped me comprehend the importance of native people in my life.
Hence, my 21st birthday party was a good lesson for me – it helped me grasp something that was truly important. Now, I am certain that without my close friends and relatives, my life would be dull and boring. I found out that not things, but people really matter. Attempting to fix everything and make it ideal, I did not recognize that without my friends the party as well as my endeavors would be in vain.
