Fatal errors have been discovered by technical security researcher Kishan Bagaria, who is studying the security of the iPhone and data transmission.
Bagaria discovered the bug while testing Apple's Airdrop feature-a feature that allows files to be transferred between phones within a specific radius.
He said that the vulnerability worked by airdropping multiple files (possibly flawed files), and that anyone nearby who set the iPhone to accept "everyone" files received those files and lost control of the phone .
Apple's iOS operating system is programmed so you can accept or reject files when you receive an airdrop, but doing so will prevent the phone from displaying-and sending spam emails to the phone through repeated attacks, causing the phone to get stuck and log off.
Bagaria said on his blog: "! If someone uses this attack against you, how will you stop it? Just run away! It will take you out of range of the attacking device. Well, I'm not sure how this will be in the plane To work. "
Researchers have come up with a more practical method to prevent attacks by turning off Airdrop, WiFi and Bluetooth.
"If you can access the Control Center from the lock screen, you can do it, but if you disable it, you can't."
He said you should be able to ask Siri to turn off WiFi or Bluetooth. "
Bagaria added: "Restarting the device also allows you to shut down AirDrop for a while before the attack occurs again."
The flaw is now resolved in any iPhone running iOS 13.3, as the phone can only accept three files from any one user at a time, preventing the resulting spam and logout of the device.
If you are running an older iOS and able to do so, you should update to protect against attacks.
