Powerwolf was formed by two brothers named Greywolf who just happened to find a Romanian opera singer with an interest in werewolf legends. It sounds too fantastic to be true. I mean, you couldn't make this stuff up. Or could you? Well, regardless of the band's beginnings they've run with a theme and with Bible of the Beast they've hit it off remarkably well.
Pure cold shivers, tears, euphoria and more shivers. And more euphoria.
My favourite tracks then? Well, there's 'Panic in the Pentagram' which has some awesome fast riffing and a shout out loud chorus plus. wait for it. bells! Anyone who's read any of my reviews will know I just love bells! Then there's 'Resurrection by Erection' which lyrically seems kind of juvenile. Actually it's completely juvenile but just try and hate it, it's impossibly catchy and I can't. I also like the fact that the album rounds off with more thunder and wolves, completing the theme nicely.
I find the low average rating surprising. This is a very likeable album for all parties. Power metal fans will obviously like it for its energy, for catchy choruses and for being power metal to the core. Those indifferent to the genre, like myself, should like it because Powerwolf are neither serious nor ridiculous. While most bands in the genre either try to sing about dragons and elves with a straight face or focus on making fun of other bands, Powerwolf are neither. Their humorous and light-hearted lyrics somehow work with the cheesy and exalted music. This is pretty much the perfect combination for power metal and I want to hear more albums like this.
Speaking of the vocals, as a s >not listening to this album, the song that most often plays in my head is "Catholic in the Morning. Satanist at Night". "Satanist at Night-AH!" Don't you just love him?
When it comes to songwriting of this future classic in general, from a scale from 0 to 100, the radar goes not even once under 100. Songwritingwise, albums like this are released once in every five years (Far From the Madding Crowd was released in 2004). Musicianship and production don't leave much behind. Bible of the Beast is pretty musicianshippish and very professionally produced.
Seriously RYM, wtf.
Bible of the Beast is the reason why the year 2009 exists.
Attila Dorn . Romania's gift to German power metal. I understand that there is a limit of how cool a metal singer can be, but Attila pretty much reaches all the limits there are. This surely has something to do with the fact that he was classically trained. Attila actually can sing. Also, you can't but love his way of pronouncing English. Most of the time you cannot tell English is not his mother tongue, but when he rolls that 'r' for example in the beginning of "Panic in the Pentagram", you just can't find yourself not smiling. "Rrremember me, You'll meet the Devil twice". One of the very best songs of all time.
For anyone who's not a fan of power metal, I think there's a good chance Bible of the Beast could be seen as somewhat of a novelty album. It's a good thing I like power metal then.

And not to mention everyone should enjoy the awesome vocals and great production.
Scale: from 0 to 10.
The opening thunder and wolf howl set the scene perfectly which is then reinforced with the big sound of a church organ. There's no doubt the organ is one of the best features of this album. It's used to great effect to create atmosphere and that certain touch of epicness but the real highlight is the songwriting and vocal arrangements, which are just so catchy. I like the fact that the songs aren't too long so as to outstay their welcome. The one thing you would normally expect to hear a lot of on a power metal album is guitar solos but slightly disappointingly, there's not a lot to be heard here.
Songwriting: 11.0 Arrangements: 10.0 Musicianship: 10.0 Singer: 10.0 Production: 10.0 Originality: 10.0 Lyrics: 10.0 Diversity of the songs: 9.0.

The song "Werewolves of Armenia" also needs a paragraph of its own. "Cantus Lupus! We are the werewolves of Armenia! We are the army of the wild!". Power metal (or music in general) doesn't get any better than this.
And then we get to the highlight of the album, "Resurrection by Erection". The title of the song may be ridiculous, but when you hear the song itself, you pretty much forget why you were laughing at the song title. I'm also sure that the lyrics of Bible of the Beast have been written tongue in cheek and are not to be taken too seriously.
"Cantus Dominus! Lupus Animus! We raise in the name of God!"
