ms bluetooth support is getting better but there bluetooth support has been far from ideal. it's not the bluetooth-technology itself but the bad bluetooth support, inplentations, lack of (windows) drivers and selective supported profiles (see ms desktop solution, works with xp only).
i have recently purchased hp ipaq h2215 pda and i already had sony ericsson t610 cell phone. i tried to connect my pda with cell phone using bluetooth connection but i can't find my phone on pda. i found pda on my phone though. i can't get it worked. please help,
this lead to the message: 'cannot connect for unknown reasons'
just wondering…. (2:26pm est thu jun 26 2003) so that got me wondering i have a laptop and the sony t68i bluetooth phone with tmobile. can i surf the web on my laptop using my phone? – by samiam bluetooth experiments (3:46pm est thu jun 26 2003) i have a nokia 3650 & a tungsten t. bluetooth on both works great with my mac, and horribly with my pc. bluetooth works so bad with my pc (tecra 8000 with xp) that i can only imagine ms has something against the standard. besides the obvious, like moving files, pictures and notes between all three, i can browse the web on my tt via my mac's dsl connection (os x.) i can sync the address books of all three, or even just send single contacts with minimal fuss and muss. it's almost miraculous. i haven't used my 3650 as a modem for my mac yet, but haven't had a need. the only thing that doesn't work so far is using my 3650 as a modem for the tt via bluetooth. hope palm upgrades phone link soon. – by irie samiam (7:12pm est thu jun 26 2003) if you go and buy a usb bluetooth adapter for your laptop, you can use it to surf the net through gprs through your phone. after that, call up t-mobile's customer service and ask for the “wireless data group” and they'll tell you how to setup a connection, after that it's always set. – by mike usb bluetooth adapter (2:10pm est fri jun 27 2003) what's a good bluetooth adapter to get, any suggestions? – by samiam adapters and surfing (11:42pm est sat jun 28 2003) the best adapter is tdk. then i'd suggest you to look at bluetake and belkin.
i als wonder…..how can it be that a small private co (backed by some big co's e.g ti, philips) like widcomm (14/23 supported profiles) has better windows bluetooth support (drivers, profiles etc.) then windows inventor microsoft (5/11 supported profiles)?
microsoft's windows mobile 2003, windows automotive ce, windows xp, smartphone 2003 platform (soon) and windows ce .net have all bluetooth support, native or not. next step could be to make bluetooth (even) more useable!? i hope the windows platforms (especially xp) get's better bluetooth support (xp > sp2/3?), bluetooth drivers and updated bluetooth profiles (see ce. net 4.2) so bluetooth will be more easy to use. how long will it take for microsoft to add the pan profile?
consumers have something against ms bad bluetooth support you mean….
i wrote and called ambicom, but haven't heard back yet. i have a feeling it's something to do with the “security code” it asks for when you install the software. bluetooth neighborhood installed ok, but 'my bluetooth places' – the app that apparently lets you configure the services required on your pc for bluetooth to work does not run at all. i don't know what's going on, and it's pissing me off. – by mike ipaq h1945 ambicom security code probs (10:21pm est fri feb 06 2004) the same thing is going on with my computer. i upgraded my mobo, cpu, ram, harddrives. (basicly a new computer) and can not figure out what the heck is going on with the security code thing. i do not remember going through this to set it up before i upgraded. if/when (more like when) i get this figured out i will post a tutorial on how to get around this on this board. if anyone figures this out before me and wants to wright a short how-to i will post it on my content-needing website billyklark.com i will give full credit (name exc.) to whoever would like to contribute. ps: do not worry mike, i own the same equipment (ipaq & bluetooth adapter) and i will not let it go to waste for too long. – by billy ambicom usb and hp2215 (1:59am est sun feb 08 2004) same problems – no service. i also wrote ambicom. their support was absolutely awful! they offered no help at all! they said that the 2215 already had a manager on board and that was it. i would be sooo happy if someone could help me. oh, by the way mike, you may have installed the wrong version. there are two. one is for the older s/n and the new one requires a longer code for a more recent usb adapter. – by johnny ambicom security code fix. (8:31pm est sun feb 08 2004) looking for that code still? its on the back of the bluetooth adapter. it is the “s.k.” number. its the first string of numbers on my adapter. see, its allways something simple and overlooked. if you or anyone have any questions just poast in my messageboard, email me or just post here. ps: at the moment google is listing this message string on google under “billyklark”. (if that helps anyone find this string again) – by billy connecting 2215 with t610 (1:24am est thu feb 12 2004) hi everybody,
prag – by prag bluetooth p rag (4:11pm est sat feb 14 2004) i like the name. i am not sure if this will help you but i have connected to cell phones with my ipaq. you may try to chose the “other” option in your pda. if it is like my ipaq at all its the last choice under the list of cell phones to chose. you also have to click “yes” or “ok” on your phone to accept a connection. sorry if i am of no help to you but that is all i know about the subject. – by go dale earnhardt jr help 2215/3650/tmobile (4:15am est mon mar 08 2004) i'm trying to connect to my t-mobile wireless internet service. i have the ipaq2215/nokia 3650 and t-mobile's wireless data service. i've tried just about everything i can think of… are there any sites or places with accurate settings for these devices? my phone and pda are paired, just not cooperating! thanks for your help! – by jared same 2215/3650 issue.. (4:19am est fri mar 26 2004) i have the same combination of pda and cell phone. i have the same issue of not being able to connect to the gprs network through the 3650. please, let someone describe how to successfully set the connections, probably as an addendum to the first message, which only didn't mention how he finally succeeded in setting up his connection. and what is a 'cid' (referring to the '1' in *99***1#)? – by rataplan same 2215/3650 issue… solution. (11:40am est fri mar 26 2004) ok, here's a clue… just like palmsolo says in the first article… it has to do with the init string.
then my telco gave me the right initstring for my ipaq 2215: +cgdcont=1,”ip”, “debitel”
see – by willem please post 2215 bluetooth tmobile settings (8:47pm est wed jul 02 2003) can you please post a detailed setup guide as to how you got your 2215 to dial tmobile? i have the devices paired (my 3650 sees the 2215 and vice versa) but when i go to connect giving the the *99# number to dial the phone does not dial at all. and i get a message on the ppc saying that i cannot connect. any help hugely appreciated! thanks so much :) – by doctorc ambicom usb adaptor (2:17am est thu aug 14 2003) i have a 2215 and an ambicom usb adaptor just like you have, but i cannot get them to work at all. it just keeps saying that there are no services available on my computer. how can i get it to work correctly? – by john ambicom usb adaptor (1:21am est fri aug 22 2003) like john, i have exact same problem w/ 2215 and ambicom b/t usb. both devices are discovered, but “no services” are accessible. i reviewed ambicom site and downloaded current drivers, to no avail. help! – by dave belkin bt (7:54pm est wed sep 03 2003) running like a charm with my hp2215 and pc. it was a snap to setup no less then 5min. i was able to hot sync, transfer file. pick up the belkin from frys for 29.99. now trying to get bt phone from t mobile.
the instruction on the website said: initstring: at+cgdcont=1,”ip”, “debitel”
thomas wrote up a nice feature regarding his experiences with his new tungsten t and bluetooth back in november 2002. i have always been interested in bluetooth, but never had the opportunity to check it out myself. after t-mobile announced unlimited data for us$20 per month i decided to jump back into the “connected” world and bought a nokia 3650 (free after amazon rebates) bluetooth phone to go with my planned bluetooth pda. i then bought the ipaq 2215 before the official release and was on my way. i bought both ambicom and belkin usb bluetooth adapters for my windows xp home edition desktop. i have to say that discovering the devices and setting them up to transfer files back and forth was as easy as thomas described, especially with the new pocket pc bluetooth manager in windows mobile 2003 … with the exception of using the belkin adapter. after installing the belkin adapter software i received the dreaded mobile device's tcp/ip error and lost my dsl connection. this happened to me with my first zaurus, and required that i perform a complete reinstall of windows xp. this time i was smart enough to have the system restore ability in xp on, and it was a simple case of recovering to a time before installing the belkin adapter. i read that this was a good adapter to use because of the widcomm drivers, but it didn't work for me. the ambicom worked well, although i haven't been able to get the nokia pc suite software to work with it yet. so, setting up and seeing each other was quite simple. but i wanted more, including the ability to use activesync and connect via my phone to the gprs network. i got activesync to work after selecting the correct com port in the activesync connection settings page, but for some reason i have to go into my control panel and disable and re-enable this com port before each activesync connection is made. so there are a few additional steps to get it going, but it does work. it took me three days of searching high and low and talking with others via e-mail and postings in forums to find the correct number and initialization string to get the gprs connection setup on my ipaq and nokia 3650 on the t-mobile network. it now connects fine, and i love surfing and e-mailing everywhere i go. the speeds are decent and the experience is worth the effort. so far i have found bluetooth to be extremely useful (i don't need a cradle or cable to sync on my home computer), but not as easy to set up as i thought it would be.

for setup, configuration and more have a look on geekzone bluetooth guides: – by brown lack of bluetooth support and good inplentations (6:49am est tue jul 01 2003) “bluetooth works so bad with my pc (tecra 8000 with xp) that i can only imagine ms has something against the standard.”
– by bt setting up bluetooth in laptop (2:09pm est thu sep 25 2003) i got a toshiba ps25 507 which is supposed to have bluetooth in it.along with wifi..unable to set up the bluetooth.wifi works fine and is set up…or aware of how to do it..have the t2 which has a functional bt ..any suggestions – by harry ambicom usb adapter (9:08pm est thu oct 09 2003) like john & dave i have same problem but with hp2210. reports no services available. also blue tooth neighborhood reports ipaq present even when switched off. – by gary belkin usb adapter (2:59pm est wed oct 15 2003) did you ever get the belkin usb adapter to work? i get the tcp/ip problem and then have to use system restore can't get around this problem though any ideas? i'm at my witts end! – by pete belkin ft8001 to work with xp? (12:05pm est sat oct 18 2003) does anyone know how to get the nokia 3650 to work with the belkin ft8001? and win xp? – by dharmin ambicom, 3650 & pc suite (7:23pm est mon oct 27 2003) this is just my opinion, but i think that ambicom doesn't allow 3rd party software to work with its device. and, if i were you, i wouldn't install the pc suite. why? cause i can't remove it from my pc!! grrrrr. ambicom has its own file transfer client built in…and i must say it workes flawlessly! you have to remember to give your nokia a name (menu, connections, bluetooth, options). when ambicom's software discovers it, it will ask u for a password make up one, then enter it on your desktop. 3650 will then ask for permission, say yes. then, voila! you're ready to transfer stuff back & forth! items you send from 3650 to your pc will be in c:btinbox (bluetooth inbox). good luck!! – by sheri 2215 and tmobile (3:01pm est sun dec 07 2003) did any one get this figured out? i can bt connect, and then when i dial *99# it fails? – by curtis xda 2 and belkin bluetooth (12:58pm est mon dec 15 2003) anybody out there who has tried out the belkin bluetooth usb adaptor with the new xda 2? i am looking for a good adaptor for my laptop at the moment. any difference in the two versions (10m vs 100m range)? – by tilman ipaq 2215 and tmobile service using sony t610 phone (3:10pm est wed dec 31 2003) i have this working just fine for wireless internet. it is fairly dependable. depending on phone connection speed. the number to dial from my 2215 is *99***4#. where 4 is the cid number from my sony t610 phone. so, i set up the phone and the ipaq and then i use bluetooth mgr to connect each time. it works fairly well. i use thunderhawk browser or internet explorer on my 2215. – by ryan a. bluetooth virgin (12:45pm est sat jan 03 2004) i'm sorry – i am very inexperienced with computers/internet. i received a hp2215 for christmas (because, evidently, i was good). i hope somebody can translate what i can do! do i have the ability to simply walk into a building that has wireless internet connections and access the internet with my hp2215? i try to read and i just do not understand the jargon. you know . . . old dogs, new tricks. anyway, i am trying to get with it. i appreciate any help. – by harley ambicom usb adaptor (10:37pm est mon jan 05 2004) just like john and dave back in august. i have the same exact problem. i have an ipaq h1945 (pocket pc) with bluetooth, and trying to connect to my pc, but the bluetooth manager on the pda keeps saying there are no services available on my pc.
