check progress of 1703 updates.
I need to know who on the network is still on Windows version 1607 (or worse/older.) I wish that the Spiceworks inventory showed the Windows version number, that would solve my problem.
Anyway, I am looking for ideas to remotely find and record the winver-style version number, even if it means running a login script for a while. Ideas?
As I said above, you can do this with a SQL report in Spiceworks. Here's a quick example:
Based on the replies it sounds like I need to upgrade all machines to a newer version of Powershell to avoid headaches. With computers being Win 7 SP1 and a mix of Server 2008 r2/2012 r2, which version would you all recommend? It seems like 5.0 would work and I'd have the latest version. Initially I will just use Powershell to accomplish repetitive tasks (restart computers, rename computers, join/un-join domain, create file shares, modify file share access, etc.), just the basics until I get more comfortable. In my environment we only have read access to our domain controllers so I don't think any of the handy PS scripts for AD will work under those circumstances.
There are things written to do this already:
