Microsoft Project Professional 2010.
Last year I purchased Microsoft Office Professional 2010 and in the same bundle I also purchased Microsoft Project Professional 2010, including a Product key.
I loaded both programs onto my HDD and it turns out they were counterfeit.
So I immediately contacted Microsoft to tell them about this, I gave them all the details of the transaction including the Product key which had occurred on eBay.
Microsoft then very kindly activated my software.
Note; this user has now been removed by eBay.
Microsoft Office Professional 2010 has been running continuously without a problem.
But then over the weekend I wanted to use Microsoft Project Professional 2010 and as soon as I opened it up I got the alert message “this product is not activated” and a big red band across the top.
I was horrified, so yesterday I thought I will phone Microsoft to explain to them about the previous transaction and the fact that they only activated Microsoft Office Professional 2010 and did not activate Microsoft Project Professional 2010 as this was in the same package / purchase, this is even after me giving them the Product key.
1 HOUR and 55 MINUTES later on the phone I was no nearer to a resolution.
I got passed from advisor to advisor each one with a different title, and each time I relayed my story telling them everything and including the product key.
Eventually I was asked did I have a Microsoft Account [which I do] but I fail to see why a Microsoft Account should be needed to rectify a problem caused initially by Microsoft who did not activate both programs as was discussed initially.
So my question is as follows;
How do I get my copy of Microsoft Project Professional 2010 activated without another two hour phone call?

I think the key statement here is, "Microsoft then very kindly activated my software", especially the "very kindly" part. Based on your story, in my view Microsoft was/is under no obligation to activate the counterfeit software you bought. I'm surprised they did as much as they did.
However, all of that is pretty mute since posting your issue on this forum will do you absolutely no good as far as getting resolution. Why? Because this forum and others like it are "manned" by volunteers like myself. We do not work for nor have any association with Microsoft.
I'm sorry if this sounds a little harsh and I do sympathize with your plight. You were taken and you are frustrated trying to get resolution. But at this point I think your best bet is to either keep trying to ask for mercy from Microsoft, and yes that may take hours on the phone, or bite the bullet and buy a valid license from a reputable Microsoft dealer.

If I had just said Microsoft activated it, and left it at that.
But the real thing here is that Microsoft are at fault and I know for a fact that they monitor these Forums.
So all they have to do is admit it privatley and send me an email to say it is now activated.
I am so sorry to hear of your situation - but I must echo what John said. There no folks on these forums who will be able to help. Most of the people on the Project threads are volunteers and the other person who joins us on occasion is from Software Support - not licensing.
Regarding the different products - Project has never been part of the Office Suite (despite its name). So a key that would activate Office would not activate Project.
Sorry, your best bet is to see if you can work with Microsoft for the kindness again.

I have not asked anybody on this Forum to either activate or get involved I am just posting this thread for information purposes only.

I'm sorry but I fail to see why you feel Microsoft is at fault. Did they sell you the bogus software? From what I read in your post, they did not. So why do you feel they are obligated to do anything? In my mind, they have gone out of their way when they activated your illegal Office suite. Your gripe should be with the person who sold the bogus software on eBay, though I doubt you have little recourse other that getting that vendor banned from eBay, which it sounds like you have done.
We can and do sympathize with your predicament but you need to be honest, this is NOT Microsoft's fault, at least based on what you have described.

although quite some time has passed for this thread, I wanted to add how I sympathize for you too. There were quite a few things you mentioned I was going to make no response however It would do you no good the next time around. Microsoft states in all purchase agreements all of their rights, rules, responsibilities and limitations. They also state you as the consumer should be diligent when making any future purchases to ensure your getting proper quality products. They will not be held responsible and ask that if you do not agree, to take the software out of your computer and arrange an exchange or return.
The "Product Activation" team would be the most appropriate 800# to call when provisioning issues arise (google: Microsoft product activation line" )the number is automated (live people avail at times) and a mechanical voice will guide you so have your product key ready to readback. Whether or not they activated it you should still try it on your own. if the product key does not work then it is unfortunate.
This team was never at all likely to provide you with a prod key for the install so it just surprises me. They are forbidden to. actually they would have to get someone on the line from sales so they can get paid. I had to call that line at least 4-5 times per week (viruses/ malware infected drives) cause me to refo. I once got really upset because a machine I was refurbishing for someone was having activation issues too. They were able to have me interact a few simple requests. so I ran "run"application and they directed me to type a "SLUI" command and the computer kept flashing a message to purchase another product key as the product key is expired.I needed that pc back to its customer. all that happened was a clean install of windows. they asked if I changed or modified any system aspect. I remembered I swapped the HD out. Newly installed hardware components can trip either the office validation service or Windows activation Service (watts) to run until a "true" response has been indicated to the process service.
I wound up entirely forgetting that which is embarrassing. I have worked In IT for years, I work too hard or too much sometimes. glad you found resolution on your own.
