Netflix has become one of the most popular streaming platforms and its popularity has further risen partly due to the lockdown and partly due to their Netflix Originals which have grabbed all the attention of their audience. Netflix Originals have been produced by Netflix in several countries and the platform has seen an immensely positive response to them. Here are a few Netflix originals that are a must-watch.

Money Heist
La casa de papel, as known in Spanish, Money Heist revolves around 2 heists made across a span of 4 seasons which involves 8 main characters controlled by mastermind ‘The Professor’. The series is an adventure thriller that plays with the minds of the viewer with edgy fight sequences and intense plot movement, all while expertly letting the viewer into the experience. The first season shows the heist at Royal Mint of Spain which is a printing factory that mints currency while the second heist takes place at Bank of Spain, both of which show a brilliant display of the tension between the robbers and the police. The show is for people who appreciate nuances of psychological twists and turns along with the thrill of looting.

Never Have I Ever
A large chunk of Netflix’s audience is teenagers as well as young adults in their early to mid-20s. So it makes sense that a coming of age series like ‘Never Have I Ever’ has gained incredible popularity on the platform. Loosely based on the creator Mindy Kaling’s teenage years, the show involves the protagonist Devi Vishwakumar, a 15-year-old, who wants to explore the world but is tied to the bounds of her Indian family. The series perfectly captures the conflict of a young teenager who is just starting to explore the realities of the adult world while also dealing with personal troubles. ‘Never Have I Ever’ makes for a perfect teenage experience that one can binge watch at 12 am with a side of chips and cookies.

13 Reasons Why
‘13 Reasons Why’ is credited to be one of Netflix’s first widely known successes within the teenage audiences. The series captures the journey of a high school student Clay Jensen, who is anonymously handed over 13 tapes which are associated with the murder of Clay’s friend Hannah Baker. The first season traverses through various characters from the high school and their mental and physical wrong-doings on Hannah which eventually leads to her death. The following seasons also explore the mysteries of several murders that plague the group of high schoolers and Clay’s journey of dealing with them.

You
Another psychological thriller, ‘You’ is a perfect example of a seemingly harmless series if you haven’t already watched it. Based on a 2014 novel, Joe Goldberg is a bookstore manager in New York where he finds Guinevere Beck and instantly gets attracted to her, so much so that he starts stalking her in every possible way. The second season brings Joe to LA where he falls in love with Love Quinn and tries to rebuild his new life. While some may think this to be a plot of a rom-com, it is far from one as the viewer is suddenly gripped into the horrific incidents that Joe is forced to do to save his love. Spoiler alert, there is a meat grinder involved.

Space Force
From the genius of the ‘improv’ master and ‘Office’ star Steve Carell, this comedy is definitely for the ones who seek some light-hearted comedy. ‘Space Force’ is centered on the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, which is headed by Steve Carell. The hilarious take on the ongoing space revolution that the United States has been talking about is nothing short of genius. Steve’s character Mark R. Naird expects a promotion for the Army, however to his surprise he lands himself in the newly formed Space Force branch. In the process, he moves to Colorado and has to work with an equally questionable set of scientists and ‘Spacemen’. While the series is no match for the previously outstanding work of Steve Carell, Space force is definitely binge-worthy.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Sabrina is no stranger to the younger 90s generation and just like the dark update to Archie’s comics in the form of ‘Riverdale’, ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ ditches the comedy for a dark twist with many stating it to be the most satisfying since ‘Riverdale’. Sabrina, played by Kiernan Shipka, goes on a journey of witchcraft where her part-mortal soul keeps the plot ongoing. We move further in with various storylines accentuated by spells, magic, and dark witchery along with teenage fashion and drama. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina makes for a good watch to the fans of the previous show.

Black Mirror
Have you ever wondered about the future of the world if technology took over? Well, Black Mirror gives a peek into a set of individual stories, each one taking on a personal interpretation of technology’s effects on the future. Right from a social ranking app to continuing life after death, Black Mirror gives you the chills in all possible ways. Many have deemed it to be incredibly impactful as the chances of these stories panning out into our realities are very high. Black Mirror is one of the most intriguing series in the entire Netflix library and one cannot be disappointed after watching the series.

Lost In Space
Yet another interpretation of a classic series, Lost in Space is based in the 1965 series of the same name where a family gets trapped in space after a sudden discourse. After humanity’s survival comes under threat, the Robinson family seeks out in space for their answers by colonizing a new planet in the Alpha Centauri star system with several other families. But while doing so, their ship is attacked by an alien robot that crashes them into a nearby habitable planet. The family is then faced with several challenges while they find a way to get back to the ship. The series is a perfect match for sci-fi lovers and makes for a good watch for a total of 20 episodes.

Abstract: The Art of Design
Abstract: The Art of Design is for the creative minds to take inspiration from. With a series of episodes covering various domains like graphic design and architecture, the series is a perfect encapsulation of art and its modern form into several fields. Although released in 2017, the series is a must-watch for any creative person who seeks to understand aspects of design while also diving into the creative process for an individual. The people interviewed in the first season are Christoph Nieman, Tinker Hatfield, Es Devin, Bjarke Ingels, Ilse Crawford, Platon, Paula Scher, and Ralph Gilles. The show was renewed for a second season with interviews from Olafur Eliasson, Neri Oxman Ruth Carter, Cas Holman, Ian Spalter, and Jonathan Hoefler.

Dark
Thriller seems to be Netflix’s favorite and while ‘Stranger Things’ was good, the German TV series ‘Dark’ is a more mature take on the thriller genre. The plot starts off at the disappearance of a child in a small town and as Jonas, the main character, starts his investigation, the unraveling of mysteries becomes even more intriguing as a government facility looks suspiciously linked to the cause. While the plot may seem similar to ‘Stranger Things’, the depiction of the story in terms of visuals and music is far from it. Dark is a must-watch for those who felt ‘Stranger Things’ was a little immature and off-puttingly childish.
