5 Principles of a Continuous Improvement Model!

If you want to easily identify and act upon improvements opportunities in your business, you need to have the right team and use the right continuous improvement model. You can have the right methodologies and tools, but without the right model, it will be a bit hard to improve your organization as you would like to. The model should consider your needs and even reflect ideas your organization should undertake to improve your processes, services and products. Also, the model should be guided by the following principles.

1. Improvements are based on small changes

To take your business to a higher level isn’t that easy. For that reason, you need to focus on small changes that will not be costly and even cause some resistance to change among the stakeholders. By making small changes in incremental steps, your organization will not need to wait for a huge budget or a strategic shift to advance. Make changes bit by bit, and you will find your business up there on the market.

2. Employee ideas are key

The continuous improvements approach does not only involve those in top management positions, but also all other employees and stakeholders. Employees are the one seeing the challenges in the processes and can give excellent ideas when it comes to improvements. Also consider their complaints. You need to work on those complaints to keep the employees motivated as well as addressing production-related complaints.

3. Incremental improvements are inexpensive to implement

You will notice that employees focus on small changes which are typically inexpensive to implement. This will mainly focus on eliminating some processes, which is an excellent way to improve value and quality to the customers. It also helps to reduce wasted effort and even resources. Therefore, consider incremental improvements step by step, until you get to the desired level.

4. Employees take ownership of the changes and improvements

Engaging your employees in identifying and making necessary changes in your business, is the best thing you can do to improve your business. The employees know the processes involved and the proposed changes, hence it will not be a problem to implement the changes. Also, engaging the employees will increase their engagement in actualizing the changes, and there will be no resistance to change.

5. Improvement is measurable and reflective

You can’t just make a few changes in your business processes and call it an improvement. The improvement should be measurable as well as reflective. Consider using a software with powerful analysis features or tools. For instance, if you use The Engage Process, or any other continuous improvement software, use its powerful analytic tools to measure the impact of the changes. Also, consider other analytic tools to measure the impact. From the analysis, you will know if the changes brought improvements or not.

Final Words

You need to understand various principles that guide your continuous improvement model. By understanding these principles, you will know what to do and expect when you need to improve your business processes for improved productivity and customer satisfaction. Remember to consider a cost effective continuous improvement approach.
