Thyroid disorders are common as it affects almost 1 in 25 people with low or high levels [1].
More specifically, the risk of hypothyroidism is highest for individuals who are either under 20 years or over 60 years of age [1]. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to diagnose a thyroid hormone imbalance from symptoms alone considering they often overlap with other conditions. To determine when a thyroid disorder is present, the most effective assessment is a blood test that measures TSH, T3, T4, and TPO levels, since these are the four key components that determine the health of the thyroid glands. Currently, there is an at-home thyroid test that allows one to collect a sample with a simple finger prick, which can get results for these components in less than a week.
