Finding The Best Hunting Knives For Sale

When it comes to any hunting trip, having the right knife for the job is essential. The hard part is deciding which knife will actually best meet the criteria of your next hunting trip given the thousands of hunting knives for sale online. Keep in mind, there is no single knife that is going to be the perfect fit for every hunter. Instead hunters have to consider a few things about their style of hunting and what other jobs their knife will have to perform in order to make the best choice.

The best and most reliable hunting knives are almost always fixed blade knives. A folding pocket knife can be useful, but a good fixed blade will be able to do far more in the field. Fixed blade knives can still vary widely, so the first thing to consider is the blade size you will need. This will mostly be determined by what you will be hunting. Obviously a bigger knife will be more useful for field dressing large game, while a smaller knife will be better suited for skinning and cleaning smaller animals. If you also plan on using your hunting knife while camping, a blade between 4” and 6” tends to be ideal for most campsite chores.

Another important factor to consider is the material used to make your knife. A knife could be perfect in every other way, but still not hold up if it is made from subpar materials. When it comes to the blade itself there are countless stainless steel and carbon steel formulations used to construct knives. Some favorite steels amongst many hunters and outdoor enthusiasts are 1095, A2 and 3V carbon steels. Most carbon steels are popular because they typically take an edge fairly easily and hold an edge well. Stainless steel is also a popular option, though these blades are somewhat more difficult to sharpen.

Finally you need to consider the design of your blade and its point. The point, grind, and additional blade features will all have an impact on how you use your knife. Drop and modified drop point knives are generally considered to be the standard option, though some hunters will prefer a classic clip point, Nesmuk, or spear point blade. When it comes to choosing a grind, Saber and Flat grinds are both popular for hunters that offer flexibility in the types of cuts they can perform well.
