12 Clever Ways to “Disney-fy” Your Nursery

12 Clever Ways to “Disney-fy” Your Nursery

Dumbo, baby safety, Winnie the Pooh, Disney Princess — I went through so many different ideas before settling on a theme for my baby’s nursery. One thing was always clear, however: It would include tons of DIY projects.I have a lot of fun completing do-it-yourself crafts, and those nesting tendencies during pregnancy gave me an extra motivation to craft special elements for the room. And with a little bit of hot glue and some pixie dust, you too can make a Disney nursery full of DIY fun!1. Start with BeddingStart your nursery with an adorable bedding collection. Once you’ve got one selected, you can start adding some DIY touches to the room.2. Spell the Name of Your Favorite Character Spell out the name of a favorite Disney character (or Baby’s name) to add a little personalization to the room. Grab wood letters from your local craft store. You can opt to leave them plain or tailor them to your nursery theme. I chose to make them out of felt and stuffed them. Another option is to spell out Baby’s name in wooden blocks.3. Sew an Embroidery Hoop in Your ThemeEven having only minimal sewing skills, I sewed an embroidery hoop with my daughter’s birthday. Cloth was cinched in the hoop frame and then felt numbers were attached. To match my daughter’s “it’s a small world” nursery, I added the clock face and used a font reminiscent of the Disney parks ride.4. Create a Matching MobileWood dowels, string, and decorations are all you need to make a DIY mobile. Our nursery has hot air balloons hanging from each of the four corners, reminiscent of the movie “Up.” Just remember safety first when hanging anything above Baby.5. Put a Disney Twist on Your Curtain TiesTo pull back the curtains in my daughter’s room, I made my own curtain ties. To match her felt name banner, I used the same material and made stuffed animals. If you’re attaching hooks to the wall, consider adding a Disney twist with a some painted tiles. You can even adhere buttons from your Disney parks vacations.Advertisement6. Disney-fy Your Drawer KnobsRevamp an old dresser for Baby’s nursery. One easy way is to change out drawer pulls or knobs. Add a touch of pixie dust with painted knobs or even modge podge your favorite characters onto the knobs.7. Frame an Old Character Costume With a baby born in October, her first Halloween costume was teeny tiny. A shadow box makes for an easy way to turn this adorable costume into a work of art. Another twist would be to frame your favorite Disney Baby outfit — perhaps the outfit Baby wears home from the hospital.8. Build a Library of Disney BooksMy youngest has a pretty small bedroom, so adding a bookcase wouldn’t really work. The solution for us was to use wall space. Spice racks and even pieces of rain gutter work well for storing Baby’s library. Fill it with tales of princes and princesses.9. Turn Disney Figurines into BookendsOnce you’ve start building a library Belle would adore, make bookends to keep favorites at hand. Attach your favorite Disney figurine to a block of wood using strong glue and spray paint the creation. It’s a modern look that will bring a little extra magic to your nursery.10. Display Your Favorite Disney QuoteDisney movies are full of great inspiration. Add your favorite quote to Baby’s nursery. You can paint it on the wall, use vinyl stickers, or frame a printout. You can find some inspiration here.11. Add “Disney Ride Height Requirements” to Your Growth ChartWood growth charts double as keepsakes and works of art. My favorite DIY growth charts list height requirements for rides and attractions at Disney parks. Search the internet for free tutorials.12. Paint a Disney MuralIf you’re artistic, baby bedding, paint a Disney mural in Baby’s bedroom. Consider the map to Never Land, Sleeping Beauty’s castle, or the Hundred Acre Wood. If you want something less permanent, consider painting a chalkboard wall. Chalkboard paint markers are a great way to get the look without the dust.
