Marriage is one of the important parts of our life. We give great importance to marriage in many aspects save one: matching horoscopes before marriage. This is an age-old custom among Hindus. It will determine if they have similar personalities, attitudes, and interests, for one. It can find out if they will have progeny and if the marriage will improve their financial sector. It can identify if they will develop any health problems or if they have any bad habits and addictions. It can even determine if the boy and the girl will have good relationships with their in-laws! This, too, is very important as in-laws can cause problems in their marriage.

The fact that many Hindus still go in for Thirumana Porutham speaks volumes about its continuing relevance in human life and of Vedic Astrology in general.
