Tips You Can't Ignore While Buying Pedestal Basins

While most of us struggle with having a tiny bathroom at home, there is a way to make it feel a bit more spacious.

There are two types of washbasins you can add to your bathroom:

A full pedestal washbasin

A half pedestal washbasin

To make a smaller bathroom look bigger, try installing a full pedestal washbasin as it is known to take up less space and makes the room look spacious.

However, it is not easy to revamp the old washbasin and add a new one in its place. Many factors need to be considered. For those looking to install a half pedestal washbasin, a few of these tips apply to you as well.

Faucet holes on a pedestal sink have a different configuration. Some have a single hole spacing while others and the most common ones have two holes spaced four inches. Try finding a sink with a faucet that matches, or you can start with the tap and then select the sink with the correct hole configuration.

To ensure you get a sleek look, the pipes will have to be hidden behind the sink. You might require a plumber to help with the fitting of the sink. If you decide to keep the plumbing around, some of it might be seen. You can always choose a pedestal sink with a broad base to cover the pipes.

An entire pedestal sink base will need to be anchored to the floor. The basin will need to be fitted to the back wall. You would need to install a piece of lumber behind the wall to keep it secure. Once you choose a sink, read the installation requirements for your model.

The water supply lines and the shutoff valve have to be tucked behind the pedestal not to be visible. Sometimes the plumbing may be visible from certain angles. Hence, we recommend having special fittings that match the sink or the surroundings.

In the middle of the pedestal sink, there should be a drain pipe. This alignment is necessary, along with the two water supply lines on each side. The pipe needs to be of the right height to reach the drain hole under the sink. To get this right, you may be required to cut the pipe.

Sometimes when you take off your existing washbasin, some of the floor and wall need repairs or a finish. The areas for the old sink may not have the same material and colour as the rest of the bathroom. However, there have been instances where you may get lucky and have to retouch the area where the old sink was. You won't know until you take off the old one.

A pedestal sink with some research and planning can help make your bathroom space feel more luxurious and spacious.
