Vastu Guidelines for the Overhead Tank

Vastu is the ancient Indian science of architecture that lays down the principles for constructing buildings so that they bring success, prosperity, and happiness to the occupants. Vastu defects in a home can cause many problems like illness, arguments, financial problems, marital discord, etc. In the workplace, too, it can have adverse effects that hinder success and growth. Vastu shows us how we can use the elements and directions to optimize the flow of positive energy in a building.

Water is a major element in Vastu. So, it is important to install water tanks (the source of water) in a Vastu-compliant way. This can create positive energy and a harmonious environment. But a wrong placement can trigger family problems, sickness, and financial losses.

People install water tanks in their houses or workplaces to ensure a smooth flow of water for all their needs. So overhead tanks have an important function in a building. According to Vastu Shastra, it is very important to place the overhead tank in the right place. This ensures that the flow of water is smooth and creates positive energy. If you place the overhead tank according to the guidelines laid down by Vastu Shastra, it can bring harmony, good fortune, and prosperity.

Below, we give some key Vastu guidelines for placing your overhead water tank.

Tank’s Position: As per Vastu Shastra, the correct position for an overhead tank is in the west or southwest part of the building. It is better to avoid the northeast corner as it has to be the lightest part of the building. Hence, if you keep the tank in this direction, it can create an imbalance between the energies. Vastu rules say that the building should be high and tall enough, and the right direction for that is the south.

Distance From the Ground: Ideally, place the tank at least two feet above the ground. This ensures that the pressure of the water flow is better. The tank should not be directly in touch with the roof slab. This may cause dampness in the building, thereby damaging the walls and other floors under the roof.
Avoid Using Plastic Tanks: Earlier, people would build the water tanks on top of a building using bricks and cement. But, nowadays, people tend to use plastic tanks, which are not recommended. Vastu Shastra says that concrete is a better option for water tanks as it keeps the foundation solid and the water pure. Plastic, however, is not safe as it causes diseases and health issues.

Light Colored Lining Tanks: According to Vastu Shastra, it is always better to use light-colored tanks with horizontal lines. The main reason for this is that it helps to prevent fungus and also makes it easier to spot problems, leakage or fungus, and prevent damage.

Solar Geyser Placement: If you want to install a solar geyser, the ideal place is above the overhead tank as it will ensure that the water flows properly.

Choosing the Right Color: If you prefer plastic tanks, use black and dark blue colored tanks. As per Vastu Shastra, dark colors prevent the water from exposure to the sun’s rays and ultraviolet radiations. This makes the water safe to drink.

Keep Two Different Tanks: Water is used for various purposes. So it is a sensible idea to have separate tanks for domestic needs and drinking water as it is good for health. The water stored in tanks may come from taps and filters, but if it comes from taps, different tanks can be used for health reasons. One tank can be used for drinking and cooking, while another can be used for washing, bathing, and gardening.

Avoid Leakages: This is a very common rule in Vastu Shastra. When installing an overhead tank, the placement and direction should be in such a manner that there will not be any leakage. If there is a leakage, it is inauspicious as it can cause the outflow of money from your house.

Wrong Placements: The appropriate direction for the tank is the west or southwest. Similarly, when placing the tank, check the room beneath it. Do not place the tank above your kitchen or bedroom, as it can cause damage due to dampness. Do not keep the tank above the main entrance of the house as it can cause health problems, lethargy, or depression.

Protecting the Tank: Overhead tanks are mostly located on the top of a building. So they get affected by heat, rainfall, snow, and other things. According to Vastu Shastra, one should keep the tanks covered completely. You can build 4 walls around the tank using concrete or just cover the tank with a cloth. It is also important to clean the tank often and keep it free of dust, dirt, fungus, and other things.

If you follow the above Vastu guidelines, your overhead tank will never be a source of problems that are likely to affect your life. Talk to the best vastu consultant in India to clarify all your vastu related queries.
