First, if you are reading this because you suspect that your dog may have cancer, take comfort in the fact that today, thanks to the recent advancements in veterinary medicine, more and more dogs are surviving cancer, or at least, living worthwhile lives for longer and longer periods, after contracting the affliction.

There are a great many signs of illness in dogs, just as there are in humans, that could be a sign of cancer in dogs, and it is tempting to list all of them. However, I think it more helpful to list only those which my experience as a dog owner suggests to me that they are the most likely to be evidence of a risk that a dog may have cancer, as follows:

Lumps and bumps, especially ones which have only recently appeared and those that grow quickly, plus those that appear, seem to get smaller or even disappear, and then reappear or become enlarged. Also, those that change color and/or are susceptible to bleeding)
Unaccountable weight gain in a dog which has previously, for a sustained period, been fed the same amount and held a steady weight
Abdominal enlargement (this may be seen as a pot-bellied appearance)
Change in urinary habits (blood in the urine or urinary incontinence)
Testicle swelling and infection and fenbendazole for cancer in dogs

There are many other symptoms that may be signs of concern in dogs. Veterinary oncologists are specialist vets which deal with tumors (cancer). They are the best to answer your questions about the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of signs of cancer in dogs. Such experts, including your vet, need to be consulted and will discuss how surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy may be used with a view to preserving the dog's quality of life, and minimizing the side effects of cancer treatment. The ability of veterinary oncology to produce worthwhile outcomes has in the past two decades improved hugely.

Here are a couple of things that you should look out for and fenbendazole for cancer in dogs :

1. Bumps and lumps of any sort can be a sign that your dog has cancer, especially if there's an abnormal swelling accompanying them as well.

2. Any sores or open wounds that aren't healing normally could mean that something is wrong with the immune system since the dog's natural healing capacity is weakened.

3. Even though sometimes a dog may not be willing to eat, that doesn't necessarily mean that they have cancer. Although you should certainly check that out.

4. However, if your dog wants more food or is even eating normally while losing weight, then this could be a sign of a bigger problem, meaning that the cancer cells are starving the dog by using up all the necessary nutrients.

5. If your dog experiences any stiffness in its joints or has any difficulty in doing normal day to day activities like walking, it could mean that arthritis or a form of bone cancer is present.

6. Lots of sneezing or coughing could mean that the respiratory tract of your dog is being targeted. This could be because your dog has sniffed some carcinogens like herbicides or pesticides, while digging or nosing through other things like garbage, lawns, or grass.

7. If there are any changes in the eye like discoloration, discharge, or redness, then that could mean eye tumors.

8. Skin tumors are another possibility for dogs. They are most commonly unnoticed because it can be a bit difficult to analyze the underlying skin.

9. Some types of dogs have a more inclination to obtain certain types of cancer, so they should have check ups regularly.

Whenever you find anything remotely suspicious, you should call your vet immediately so that your dog can get screened or tested to find out if cancer is the underlying cause. The quicker your vet determines or identifies cancer as the cause, the easier it is to get it removed or treated so that your dog can lead a better life.

So, make sure you consult a qualified licensed veterinarian. This article is not intended to replace a veterinarian's recommendations, and it is important to point out that early diagnosis is often key to a brighter prognosis.

Cancer in humans has been a rising issue for some time, but in dogs it is appearing at a higher rate than cancer in people, with according to the sources you read, between 30% and in excess of 50% of dog deaths caused by dog cancer of some type.
