Facebook Parent Meta Is Building World’s Fastest Next-Gen AI Supercomputer

Meta Platforms, Inc. $FB: $300.15(-2.77%) has designed and developed an AI Research SuperCluster (RSC), an AI supercomputer that is believed to be one of “the fastest in the world” once fully built out in mid-2022, the company announced in a blog post.

RSC will help Meta’s AI researchers build better AI models that can learn from trillions of examples; work across hundreds of different languages; effortlessly analyze text, images and videos; develop new augmented reality tools, amongst others.

RSC will open doors to build technologies required for the Next Gen computing platform — the metaverse, where AI-driven applications and products will be the central part.

“This research will not only help keep people safe on our services today but also in the future, as we build for the metaverse,” the company said in a blog post.

The social media company Facebook changed its name to Meta in October to reflect the company’s efforts on the metaverse, which it believes to be the successor to the mobile internet.

The metaverse, a broad term that has been a new buzzing word in Silicon Valley in recent months, refers to the concept of shared virtual spaces that individuals can access via various devices and where they may work, play, and interact.
