6 Simple Tips On How To Protect Your Lawn If You Need To Park Your Car On The Grass

There are several reasons why you’d need a grass parking space. It could be that you have visitors in your home and there’s no extra room for more vehicles in your garage or along the road. Or, you simply don’t have enough area in your property for a proper garage and you’re opting to park your car on your lawn. Whatever the case may be, having a grass grid system is important to avoid ruining the grass.

This article discusses this and other simple ways to protect the lawn if you need to park your vehicle on the grass.

Opt for a more resistant variety of grass

If you’re just building your lawn or planning to revamp it to give way to your car, you’d better protect it if you choose to grow a more durable grass variety. According to plastic grid businesses, the best options are Zoysia grass, Kentucky bluegrass, and hybrid bermudagrass. These are grasses that withstand heavy traffic, thus preserving the beauty of your lawn for a longer time.

Make sure to aerate the soil

Aeration refers to the process of creating holes in the soil. This is to minimise soil compaction due to various external factors (yes, that includes vehicle and even foot traffic). Aeration is also important to make sure that the grassroots receive proper nutrients and adequate air and water — all of which are important to keeping your lawn healthy and green.

Grids are your best friend

These physical barriers can protect your lawn from the heavy weight of a parked or a moving vehicle. However, note that different grass grids have different applications. So while grids are highly helpful, you have to know your purpose first. Is your grass parking area for permanent, infrequent, or temporary use? In which part of your lawn will cars be parked? Depending on your answers, you should choose a grid system that can withstand the expected volume of traffic that your grass parking area will receive.

Determine the size you’ll need for your parking space

Speaking of grass grids, you also have to determine the size of your grass parking space to purchase the right dimension and amount of grids. Even if you have installed grids, your lawn will bear the consequences over time if they’re not enough to support your car, your lawn will bear the consequences over time.

Choose the right grass grid supplier

The quality of your grid — or any other physical barrier or protection — significantly matters. It’s why you have to be careful when choosing your supplier. Ask about their credentials and check if their clients are satisfied with their products. Also check if any of their clients have the same needs as you and look into their first-hand experience with their grid systems.

Water your lawn strategically

Even if your lawn is equipped with the sturdiest of plastic grid systems, you still have a role to play to keep it protected from vehicles. One of the simplest things you can do is to water your lawn strategically. Keep in mind that too much moisture can cause your grass to tear more easily — especially when after receiving too much water, a car will be parked on them. When watering your grass, take out your car first and wait for a while before you return it. If you’re expecting visitors with cars, do the watering early morning or late at night (depending on when they’re arriving).
