5 Different Ways to Tie Back Curtains

Curtains are necessary furnishing in any home. They can serve a range of purposes: they can be used to add privacy, block light (or sunlight), or even just to decorate your windows. However, one of the most common problems with curtains is how to tie them back onto the window frame when you’re done using them.

There are many ways that you can use to tie up your curtains but in this blog post, I will be going through the five main ways, the reason why they work and the advantages of each one of them.

Curtain Hack #1: The DIY Slip Cover + Tie Backs

If you have curtains that are always getting in the way, try this simple hack to keep them out of your way. All you need is a slipcover and some Velcro.

Instructions:

Cut a piece of fabric that is twice the width of your curtain. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and sew the two long sides together.

Cut two pieces of Velcro that are the same length as the fabric strip. Sew one piece of Velcro to each end of the fabric strip.

Now, simply slip the fabric strip over your curtain and secure it in place with the Velcro.

This hack will keep your curtains out of your way when you don’t need them and make it easy to put them back when you do.

Curtain Hack #2: 5 Minute Hanging Curtains

If you’re tired of wasting time trying to tie back your curtains, then this hack is for you! All you need is a curtain and some hooks, and you can be done in under five minutes.

Instructions:

- Attach the hooks to the top of the curtain. Fold the shower curtain in half.

- Fold the shower curtain in half.

- Hang the lower half of curtains from the hooks.

- That’s it! You’re done! This simple hack can save you a lot of time and frustration. If you have long curtains this is a great way to keep them out of your way when you don’t need them.

Curtain Hack #3: Child Proof Window Cover

Do you have a window in your home that is just too tempting for your little ones to try and open? If so, then this Child Proof Window Cover is the perfect solution!

This simple project will only take a few minutes to complete, and it will help to keep your children safe from harm. You’ll need Fleece fabric, Scissors, Pins and Tape Measure. A sewing machine is optional.

Instructions:

- Measure the window using a tape measure. Begin by measuring the window that you want to cover. You will need enough fabric to cover the entire window, plus a few extra inches for seam allowances.

- Cut the fleece fabric as per the window measurements plus a few extra inches for seam allowances, using scissors.

- Fold-down the top edge of the fabric by about 1 inch, and pin it into place. Sew a straight stitch along the folded edge, or use a hot glue gun to secure it in place.

- Repeat Step 3 for the bottom edge of the fabric and then for the sides.

- This is it! A simple yet very effective DIY Child Proof Window Cover is ready. Fleece fabric eliminates the need of curtain folding and you don’t worry about your child suddenly jumping over trying to open the window.

Curtain Hack #4: The “Obvious” Curtain Treatment

Well, there are certainly lots and lots of means and ways to tie something as simple as a curtain but what is the traditional way to do it? After all, the best trick up the sleeve is the trick that has withstood the test of time!

The trick, as old as time, is fairly simple: Use Curtain Tiebacks.

Gone are those days when these tiebacks used to be monotonous. Now they came in various shapes, sizes, designs, and whatnot!

What is to be considered is:

- Size and shape of the window. If you have a small window, you will want to choose a smaller tie-back. If you have a large window, you will want to choose a larger tie-back.

- Style of the curtain. Tieback should match the overall aesthetic design of the curtain itself to make it look more “blended” in rather than looking like a foreign object.

- Weight of the curtain. Heavier curtains will need stronger to hold them back. Lighter curtains can be tied back with ribbons or bows.

- Tiebacks are here to stay. From ribbons to bows to velcro, these come in various shapes, styles, and sizes. So, use that creative mind and find the best one for your curtains!

Curtain Hack #5: The On-the-go Curtain Treatment

Curtains are one of the most versatile window treatments. They can be used to block out light, add privacy, or simply enhance the look of a room but if you are the one who has the need for speed, who wants to tie and untie curtains in a zap, there is something for you too!

Unlike tiebacks which need some effort to tie and open, you can choose to use a “Tieback Hook”.

Tieback hooks are available in a variety of sizes and finishes, so you can find one that matches your décor. The things to consider for a tieback hook are more or less the same as that of a regular tieback. The great part is, that you can customize your tieback hook and blend it with the style of your curtain.
