If you're looking for the latest release from the Arabic cinema, you've come to the right place. We've reviewed a handful of films that were recently released, from Clash to Recovering alcoholic Talal. Keep reading to discover more. If you're an Arabic movie lover, you'll appreciate these films as much as we do. You'll be amazed at the talent of the Arab cinema! In addition to these great movies, we've also written a film review of Clash and Wadjda.
Film Review of Clash
"Clash" is a witty political thriller set in Cairo, Egypt in the wake of the 2013 overthrow of President Mohamed Morsi. It is directed by Mohamed Diab, with his brother Khaled contributing the screenplay. The film begins in the back of a police truck, where two men try to get into the outside world using an Apple watch. Adam's watch belongs to an Egyptian journalist living in the United States.
The film starts at an unforgiving pitch, but Diab's script and camerawork keep the audience interested. It is a thrilling and harrowing ride, a bravura piece of filmmaking that restores an individuality to the crowd. However, it is not without its flaws. Though some may consider the film too hysterical, it is also a very well-done piece of work.
"Clash" is about a microcosm of society, and the waves of hurt and violence that come with it. Though the characters are no longer the biggest threat to one another, they have to watch helplessly as angry young men take their frustrations out on everything in their path. The film does a good job handling its realism, but it falls short of being a classic horror film. In the end, the movie is a well-made drama about human nature.
Film Review of Wadjda
The Film Review of Wadjda combines humor and piety. The young girl, Wadjda, is an overly-religious Muslim who wants to enter a Koran contest to win money to buy a bicycle. Wadjda's ambition is to be the first woman to ride a bike, but she knows riding a bicycle is frowned upon. She must raise enough money to buy a bike, and her desire to ride it is compelling.
Wadjda is a sweet coming-of-age story set in Saudi Arabia. The film stars the wonderful Waad Mohammed as a young girl with dreams of owning a bicycle. Wadjda's parents don't indulge her dreams, but they do give her the chance to compete in a Koran memorization contest with Abdullah. She wins the contest, but doesn't get the cash. Her dreams, however, come true in a way she never could have dreamed of.
The Film Review of Wadjda starts with an intense scene featuring a woman with an afro. Wadjda's mother worries that she won't be able to persuade her husband to stay. Wadjda's mother worries that her daughter's enlightenment efforts will cause her to lose her virginity. The film is not without its problems, though, and it may not be for everyone.
