A pharmacist is a licensed medical professional who can dispense prescription drugs in a pharmacy. He/she can also recommend medication for certain illnesses.

The history of Japanese-medicines dates back to the 6th century A.D. Empress Suiko dispatched young physicians to China and Chinese medical practices were gradually introduced to Japan.

During the 15th and 16th centuries, Japanese physicians achieved a more independent view on Chinese medicine. Tashiro Sanki (1465-1537) and his disciples, Manase Dosan and Nangai Todo, began to adapt Chinese theories of medicine to Japanese conditions.

They also helped to establish the Kohoha School, which advocated a return to practical theories of medicine. The Kohoha School was a major factor in Japanization of traditional Chinese medicine.

In the 17th century, Japanization of medicine became more pronounced. The most influential school was the Kohoha School, which promoted a more modern approach to traditional Chinese medicine by eliminating speculative theories and focusing on classics like Shokanron and Kinki-yoryaku. It also emphasized the importance of abdominal diagnosis.
