Exploring the Blue Spot Whiskey Experience

The Blue Spot is one of the most recognizable brands in Ireland. It’s been around since 1909 and has built up a loyal following over the years. The brand has been sold on many occasions, but it was purchased by Brown-Forman in 2015 and continues to operate out of Cork with its own distillery producing whiskey that’s 100% Irish grain-to-glass. In this article we’ll explore what makes Blue Spot so popular and what you can expect from a visit to the distillery – along with some interesting facts about its history and branding:
The Whiskey

The whiskey itself is a blend of pot-stilled grain whiskey and single malt whiskey. The grain component is made from malted barley, while the malt component comes from malted barley that has been dried over peat fires. This gives it a distinctive smoky flavor, which makes it stand out in comparison with other Irish whiskeys.

The Blue Spot Whiskey uses ex-bourbon barrels for aging its whiskey–this means that before this particular barrel was used to store Blue Spot, it held bourbon instead! This gives our special blend a hint of sweetness and vanilla notes on top of its usual smoky character.

After distillation to 80% alcohol by volume (ABV), our special blend goes into bottle at 40% ABV–but don’t worry about drinking straight from the bottle! We’ve blended each drop with water so you can enjoy all those amazing flavors without feeling overwhelmed by alcohol content or getting drunk too quickly!
